Growing up in North Bergen, twin sisters Marianela “Lulu” and Marissa “Lala” Gonzalez were inseparable. In adult life, the former KTU radio hosts still do everything side by side, from living and working together to even dating brothers, Mitch and Michelangelo Mejia.
This foursome formed in an unexpected way.
In 2019, Lala and singer-songwriter Michelangelo, who had been together for a few months, were headed to a wedding in Guatemala when Lulu jokingly asked if his older brother needed a date. He did. “Mitch and I met at the wedding and ended up taking over the dance floor the entire night,” Lulu says. “It was as if I had known him for years.”
Despite the initial spark with Mitch, who works in international sales, Lulu wasn’t ready for anything serious. “I just got out of a toxic relationship and just needed time to be alone,” says Lulu. But in July 2021, they started dating.
The dynamic works out great for these four peas in a pod. “In previous relationships,” explains Lulu, “[Lala and I have] had men that have tried to separate us…Since [Mitch and Michelangelo] are brothers, they understand the closeness and we all just get along…It’s the best thing that could have happened.”
In April 2023, Lulu became part of a new duo when Mitch got down on one knee on the West New York waterfront.
“My whole life it’s always been Lala and I, so now it’s going to be different. It’s going to be Mitch and I, plus Lala,” says Lulu, laughing. “He understands that there’s this twin bond that’s unbreakable.”
On April 4, 2024, Lulu and Mitch tied the knot at the Rockleigh in Bergen County. The bride and groom’s 195 guests included members of Lulu and Lala’s KTU family as well as contestants from season 33 of The Amazing Race, the reality competition show that the twins were on. Stars like singer Kat DeLuna, Power 105.1 radio host Charlamagne Tha God, and Mitch and Michelangelo’s niece, actress Adria Arjona, celebrated the newlyweds.
You could say that the key to an amazing party is the music. That’s the philosophy that Lulu applied to her big day. After all, Lulu and Lala have been in the entertainment industry for more than a decade, interviewing A-list performers from Pitbull to Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, and attending events like the Latin Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards. (Lulu and Lala left KTU in October 2023.)

The music started at cocktail hour when Mariachi Real De Mexico performed. “My dad’s from El Salvador. My mom is from Cuba,” says Lulu. “Growing up, you hear all sorts of different types of Spanish songs, and mariachis are always just something that’s happy.” (Mitch is Puerto Rican and Honduran.) At the reception, the DJ got the party started but stilt walkers from entertainment company Crespita, “really brought the energy,” says Lulu.
But beyond the lively dance floor, Lulu was “so grateful and just happy to have been able to even have this wedding,” she says. She’s referring to her unexpected breast cancer diagnosis in January, less than three months before the nuptials.
“I was in shock,” says Lulu, “but I reacted fast and I’m like, ‘Well, this is not going to stop me…I’m going to marry the love of my life.’…I was very positive.” In February, the 39-year-old had a bilateral mastectomy. After six weeks of recovery, she was able to celebrate at her wedding.
Now a survivor, she wants to share her story. “I can help other women going through the same thing [and] getting married. I can tell them, ‘It’s going to be fine. You’re going to be OK.’”
Lala, of course, was Lulu’s maid of honor, along with their older sister, Liliana, who was matron of honor. They both supported the bride as she simultaneously battled cancer and planned her wedding.
“[They] really took the reins,” says Lulu about her wedding. “So all the credit goes to them.” Lulu’s wedding planner, Belinda from Sovereign Bee Events, is also to thank for her flawless day.
The twins couldn’t resist incorporating some shenanigans into Lulu’s big day. Lala pranked Mitch during what he thought was the first look with his soon-to-be wife. The twins got him good. At first, he mistook Lala for Lulu, but he caught on quickly. Lulu watched the fake out from a window.

Cherry blossoms, spring’s quintessential bloom, were the inspiration for the big day. Lulu wowed her guests in a blush-colored Kelly Faetanini gown. When she went dress shopping, she didn’t plan to choose a dress that wasn’t white, and she hadn’t been diagnosed with cancer at the time. Thinking back to her dress choice she says, “Oh, look at this…pink also signifies breast cancer [awareness]. Everything happened the way it was supposed to.” The bridesmaids wore pink wine-colored dresses, and beautiful cherry blossoms and other pink flowers graced the ceremony and reception.
Lulu’s favorite moment of the day was during the ceremony. “Being on top of the altar, looking at my husband and saying ‘I do,’ and then looking out into the people, I’m like, they’re all sharing this one moment with me and my husband,” she reminisces.
Lulu also loved that her officiant was humorous yet sentimental. “He made it very fun but very wholesome and holy, like we wanted,” says Lulu. “It wasn’t too religious, but obviously, given everything that I went through, of course I had to say thank you to the big man above, because if it wasn’t for him, I would not be here.”
The Mejias spent seven days in Spain for their honeymoon and they plan to split their time between New Jersey and Miami.
Lulu admits that married life will be an adjustment as she’s used to her life being synced with Lala. “Every time [Lala and I] talk about—what is it going to be like when we’re not living together?—it’s a hard pill to swallow,” says Lulu as her eyes fill up. “It’s a different dynamic…To the rest of the world it might seem silly, but to us it’s this huge life-changing thing that’s happening.”
At the same time, Lulu is thrilled to have found Mitch.
“He’s such a wonderful man,” she says. “He’s so lovable and always happy, and he exudes positivity…I can’t see myself not being a Mejia.”
Reflecting on her fabulous big day, Lulu says, “As a little girl, you have this image of what you want your wedding night to be like, and it just surpassed everything I ever thought. Everybody was happy—my family, his family, my friends, his friends. I’m feeling overwhelmed with gratitude and happiness and just filled with love.”
