Their Story: The path began with a strong friendship that evolved into romance. Kathryn Nogueria, of Ocean Township, met Matthew Lyons, of Olney, Maryland, in 2007 at the University of Maryland, where she was visiting her best friend from high school, who was friendly with Matt. But the pair didn’t start dating until after after college when Kathryn, 29, was living with that same friend in Virginia, and often saw Matt, 28. “We were introduced as friends and had a friendship first,” Kathryn says. “That was a great foundation when we started dating.” She found him funny and sweet, and they got along great. In January 2010, their timing was right. “Finally, after years of friendship, it just worked out,” she says. “The rest is history.” Will You Marry Me?: Kathryn’s parents had eloped and married at the courthouse in Towson, Maryland. In a touching tribute, that’s where Matt brought Kathryn on October 1, 2015. “He stopped in front of the courthouse where my parents got married and dropped to one knee and he proposed,” she says. The couple returned again on July 15, 2016, to become husband and wife. Details of the Day: The celebration continued on July 24, 2016, at The Farm at Eagles Ridge in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, a beautiful meeting point for guests coming from New Jersey and Maryland. It was the perfect spot for the couple, a rustic venue with plenty of open space. An afternoon ceremony was held on the farm’s expansive grounds, with the couple’s 85 guests seated under shady trees. The reception in the barn was a mix of rustic and vintage and romantic, modern-day glam. Soft pinks and greens warmed the room and reflected nature, while gold touches added glamour. Favorite Moment: When the couple shared their last dance, to “Time of My Life,” a song they love from Dirty Dancing. “All of our family and friends came onto dance floor and got in a circle around us,” the bride says. “It was a perfect way to end the night.” One Detail They Couldn’t Have Gotten Married Without: The bride’s flower girl and ring bearer, her niece and nephew. “They were so adorable,” she says. What Went Awry: The heat. It was a hot summer day, especially for Kathryn in her ballgown. But the couple served water, lemonade and champagne before the ceremony and created programs that were fans. Advice for Other Brides: Give yourself more time than you think you’ll need to get ready so you’ll have a chance to relax before everything gets started. Kathryn was able to do a first look with her dad, and talk with her mom and bridal party. “I appreciated having that down time,” Kathryn says. Honeymoon: After a cruise of the Mediterranean and Adriatic seas, they are at home in Towson, Maryland.
