April Klecak found her “Honey, Honey” in Zac Mott, and that’s just what the invitation to her Mamma Mia-themed bridal shower said. On Saturday, May 9, 50 guests gathered in the Fox & Hounds room at the Grain House, which is on the same property as the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge, for an afternoon brunch full of plenty of music from the 2008 film as well as ABBA, the ’70s Swedish pop group that inspired the movie and musical, games, delicious food and mimosas.
“I loved my Mamma Mia bridal shower because it brought together everything I’ve always loved about the movie—the music, the carefree summer energy, and, most importantly, the themes of friendship and meaningful relationships,” she says.
The tables were adorned with bud vases of colorful fake flowers from Michael’s, tea lights and song-inspired table name frames like “Dancing Queen” and “Voulez-Vous.” A backdrop featured hand-painted Greek tile designs, fake pink flower garland, and a sparkly blue sign that read “She Found Her Honey, Honey.” Disco balls were incorporated into the decor as well.

Activities included a bead bar table where guests chose colorful beads and letter beads to create fun word bracelets. The games included a Hershey kiss count, “Guess How Old They Were” photo poster of the bride and groom, the wedding toilet paper game where one guest at each table was the bride and all other guests at the table created a wedding gown for her from toilet paper (April’s 96-year-old grandma was the winner!), and the shoe game where the bride and groom sit back-to-back each holding his and her shoes which they raise in the air when asked questions like “who’s the better driver?”
“I especially loved how interactive the shower was,” says April, “because it brought together different groups of people from my life in such a fun and natural way.”
“My favorite moment was the toilet paper wedding dress game, where each table teamed up to create the best dress out of toilet paper. Watching everyone laugh, get competitive, and show off their creativity made the whole day feel so joyful and unforgettable.”
“I also can’t forget the bead bar, where we all made colorful bracelets and keychains together—it was such a fun, personal touch and gave everyone something special to take home from the day.”
The room also featured a lovely terrace, which offered natural light and another spot for photos. Guests also went home with themed cookies from Tiny Baking Co.
Overall, April says that the fun-loving vibes of the Mamma Mia movie really became the atmosphere of her shower as well. “That’s exactly what this bridal shower felt like to me—celebrating love alongside all the important people in my life.”
