A Nigerian Money Spray, Haitian Blessings & White Roses That Mirrored Their Parents’ Wedding Flowers
When Marly and Christian chose The Mansion on Main Street in Voorhees for their July 11, 2025 wedding, it was more than just a venue decision—it was a continuation of family tradition. Members of Christian’s family had celebrated there before them, and returning to those same walls felt like a meaningful way to honor their legacy while making the space entirely their own. Beautifully photographed by Linda McQueen Photography, their celebration was elegant and deeply intentional from start to finish: white roses and baby’s breath chosen to mirror the flowers both sets of parents carried on their own wedding days, a classic white and gold palette carrying throughout, and a reception that moved seamlessly from timeless ballroom elegance into a vibrant Nigerian and Haitian cultural celebration—complete with money spraying, symbolic gift presentations and blessings from elders—that had the entire room on their feet and brought both families together in a moment of pure, overwhelming joy.
Their Story
“What began as a simple online connection quickly turned into something much bigger than we ever expected,” says Marly. “After our initial introduction, we quickly took things to FaceTime, and what we thought would be a quick call turned into hours of effortless conversation. It didn’t take long to realize there was something special there.”
“At the time, I was living in New York and he was in New Jersey, so FaceTime became our favorite way to stay connected during the week. Still, nothing compared to seeing each other in person. True to his thoughtful and committed nature, my husband would make the drive to New York to see me, and we quickly found ourselves counting down the days until the weekend. Every visit felt exciting, familiar, and worth the wait. Over time, those weekend visits led to a bigger change. What began across state lines grew into a partnership rooted in faith, intention and love.”
The Proposal
“Our engagement happened on the Fourth of July, a day that started out completely normal. We planned to stay home for the day until my husband casually mentioned that his friend had just called to invite him to his wife’s birthday dinner. He explained that his friend thought he had already mentioned it, which was completely believable since this had happened before.”
“The dinner had a Hollywood glam theme, so I quickly found an outfit to match and we headed out. When we arrived at the restaurant, no one else was there yet, which also felt normal since their events are famously known for starting late. We went inside, sat down, and waited.”
“Moments later, I noticed familiar faces walking in. One by one, our family and friends began to arrive, and I grew increasingly confused, asking my husband what was going on. That’s when he stood up, appeared with a beautiful bouquet of flowers, and got down on one knee. Surrounded by love and completely surprised, he proposed, and I said yes.”
Choosing the Venue
“Choosing The Mansion on Main Street felt like fate,” says Marly. “After visiting what felt like countless venues across New Jersey and New York, we knew the moment we stepped inside that it was the one. The space immediately felt warm, romantic, and timeless, which perfectly aligned with our vision for the day.”
“Beyond its beauty, the venue held deep personal meaning for our family. Members of my husband’s family had been married there, and continuing that tradition felt like a special way to honor our legacy while creating something uniquely our own. Family was at the heart of our wedding, and The Mansion reflected that sense of history and connection.”
“The elegance of the ballroom paired seamlessly with our white and gold color palette, while the grand architecture provided a stunning backdrop for both our cultural traditions and modern details. What truly set The Mansion on Main Street apart was its ability to feel both elevated and welcoming.”
Details of the Day
“Our wedding day was designed to feel timeless, intentional, and deeply meaningful, with every detail reflecting our love story and cultural heritage. We chose a classic white and gold color palette, as both colors hold significance in our families’ cultures, symbolizing joy, purity, prosperity, and new beginnings. The overall aesthetic was elegant and romantic, with subtle modern touches that allowed our traditions to shine.”
“Florals played a key role in the design. We selected white roses paired with delicate baby’s breath to create a soft, romantic look throughout the ceremony and reception. This choice was especially meaningful, as it mirrored the flowers both sets of our parents carried on their wedding days, creating a beautiful connection between generations. Gold accents were woven throughout the décor, from table details to candlelight, adding warmth and a sense of understated luxury.”
Favorite Moment
“Our favorite moment was the Nigerian and Haitian cultural celebration during the reception. Seeing our families and friends come together to honor my husband’s heritage while celebrating our union was incredibly moving. The joy of money spraying, the presentation of symbolic gifts, and the heartfelt blessing from the elders filled the room with energy, love, and meaning. In that moment, we felt fully surrounded by the love and support of our families, and it perfectly captured the spirit of our wedding.”
Wedding Day Attire
“On our wedding day, we carefully chose attire that reflected our cultural heritage while staying true to our personal style. I wore a stunning classic white ball gown with a subtle floral detail for the ceremony, while my husband looked dashing in a tailored white suit with custom interior details that reflected his personality. For the reception, I switched into a glammed mermaid-fitted ivory dress, perfect for dancing and celebration.”
“For the Nigerian cultural segment of the reception, we changed into vibrant purple native attire, a color symbolizing royalty, dignity, and the union of our families. Our wedding party complemented us beautifully, with bridesmaids in gold and groomsmen in classic black tuxedos, creating a cohesive and elegant look that tied the day together.”
Advice For Other Couples
“Our biggest piece of advice is to truly enjoy the wedding planning process and not get too caught up in the small details or stress. At the end of the day, your wedding is about celebrating your love with your family and friends. Focus on what matters most to you as a couple, savor the moments leading up to the day, and remember that the joy, laughter, and love you share with each other and your guests are what will make your wedding truly unforgettable.”
Honeymoon
“For our honeymoon, we escaped to the breathtaking island of Bora Bora. We spent time soaking in the turquoise waters, relaxing in our overwater bungalow, and taking in the island’s natural beauty. From snorkeling among vibrant coral reefs to enjoying romantic sunset dinners on the beach, every moment felt magical and intimate. It was the perfect way to unwind after our wedding, celebrate our new life together, and create memories we will cherish forever.”
