They Arrived by Boat at This Shore Wedding at Mantoloking Yacht Club

Molly Farrell and Matthew Hubler met at the Osprey bar in Manasquan in July 2019—fitting, for a couple whose love story is rooted in the Jersey Shore from beginning to end. After a ceremony at Sacred Heart Church in Bay Head, where Molly grew up spending summers, the couple arrived at Mantoloking Yacht Club by boat, danced on the dock during cocktail hour with a bagpiper welcoming guests to the tented reception, played tambourines on stage with classic Shore band The Nerds, and ended the night with a tandem bike ride under the tent and scoops from Hoffman’s Ice Cream truck. But the moment that stilled the whole day came just before cocktail hour, when a stunning rainbow crossed the sky — a quiet, unmistakable reminder of Molly’s father, lost on September 11, whose photo charm hung from her bouquet and whose high school football number, 34, was stitched into her veil. Their wedding day was photographed by Jim Kapinos Photography.

Their Story

Molly Farrell of Basking Ridge and Matthew Hubler of Rumson met at the Osprey bar in Manasquan in July 2019. Their first date, on a summer Friday, was grabbing a morning coffee before work in Lower Manhattan. Molly recalls that she was late for her job that day—her first workplace tardy.

The Proposal

Matt popped the question in 2024 on Memorial Day weekend at the Shore. The day started off with Molly, Matt and their families taking part in the annual Spring Lake 5-mile run. Afterward, “as I walked down the beach for happy hour, there was Matt down on one knee. Then both of our families ran toward us, and we all celebrated the rest of the night,” Molly says.

Tying the Knot

They were married at Sacred Heart Church in Bay Head, which Molly grew up attending each summer. Molly’s two brothers walked her down the aisle, her 3-year-old niece was the flower girl, and two tiny nephews were ring bearers.

Details of the Day

Matt and Molly arrived at the Mantoloking Yacht Club by boat and then danced on the dock during cocktail hour. As a nod to Molly’s Irish heritage, a bagpiper welcomed guests to the tented reception where a mobile bar awaited.

The couple’s favorite memories include speeches by family members, the bride’s heartfelt thank you to her mom for coordinating so many creative touches, and their end-of-the-night tandem bike ride under the tent.

Another special moment was playing tambourines on stage with The Nerds, a classic Shore band. To capture the beachy vibe, they capped the reception with treats from Hoffman’s Ice Cream truck. Other Shore decor included sea-glass table numbers and a beach-badge seating chart. Signature drinks were a Mantoloking Margarita and Lavallette Lemonade.

Special Tribute

Molly’s father passed in the September 11 World Trade Center attack. “Keeping my dad present at my wedding was important to me, so I attached his photo charm to my bouquet and had the number 34 stitched into my veil because that was his high school football number,” says Molly. Instead of a traditional father-daughter dance, Molly gave a speech honoring him. She also re-purposed her father’s prized red canoe as a jumbo cooler for iced beverages. “Right before cocktail hour, a stunning rainbow crossed the sky, a beautiful reminder that he is always with us,” she says.

Advice For Other Couples

“In the stressful moments of wedding planning, always come back to your why. When you’re saying ‘I do’ at the altar or screaming with your best friends on the dance floor, none of the little details matter. What’s important is that you’re surrounded by the people you love most,” Molly says.

Honeymoon

A month after their wedding, Molly and Matt spent two weeks in Bali, swimming in waterfalls, riding ATVs, hiking at sunrise and bathing elephants. “It was the world’s longest nonstop flight but worth it,” Molly says. The couple is now at home in Hoboken.
