8 Winter Wedding Details to Inspire Your Own Big Day

Inspo for your winter wonderland wedding.

Have you been dreaming of a snow-covered wedding day? Want to fill your big day with holiday cheer? If wintertime is the backdrop for your wedding, play up this cold-weather season by incorporating festive elements.

Here is some inspiration from real couples for your winter wonderland wedding.

1. Create a festive sweetheart table

Charmaine & Joseph
WEDDING DATE December 15 2022
VENUE The Hamilton Manor, Hamilton
INSPO From a Christmas proposal to a mid-December wedding, Charmaine and Joseph’s love story revolves around the most wonderful time of the year. “We had an elegant Christmas-themed wedding,” says Charmaine. “Our sweetheart table was so romantic and straight out of a Hallmark movie as two Christmas trees were placed as a backdrop with three winter floral arrangements with greenery, pine cones, red romantic flowers and more lined our table alongside candles,” says Charmaine.

2. Get creative with a seasonal seating chart

Sabrina & Justin
WEDDING DATE December 9, 2022
VENUE Park Chateau, East Brunswick
INSPO Sabrina and Justin created a Christmas-inspired celebration. All of the little details and decorations—from the seating chart to the milk-and-cookies bar and the red-rose flower wall—were done with the holidays in mind. “I would describe my seating chart as being a Christmas lover’s dream,” says Sabrina about the decor piece at her early-December wedding. “I truly love the happiness and joy the holiday season brings. I pictured almost a life-sized Santa’s nice list, but instead it would have my guests and their table numbers on it. I knew I wanted it to say ‘to all a good night’ to hint at the classic Christmas story.”

Lauren & Jake
WEDDING DATE December 10, 2023
VENUE Battello, Jersey City
INSPO Jake and Lauren’s December wedding had a “city-chic winter” theme. The colors were wintry, Lauren’s dress had a big bow, the bridesmaids wore a mix of burgundy reds in different textures (velvet, tulle, satin, sparkles, ruffles). Jake wore a velvet black Jacket, and the groomsman wore black tuxes. “For flowers we did a lot of greenery on the tables with a hint of red and white,” says Lauren. “Battello is one of those venues that doesn’t need too much and looks beautiful as is, since it overlooks the city. Battello had some Christmas decor that I opted to keep up (garland, wreaths on the window) that looked great and added to the atmosphere.”

Taylor & Kevin
WEDDING DATE January 21, 2023
VENUE Liberty House, Jersey City
INSPO “Going into wedding planning I knew that I wanted a winter wedding, but not just your typical Christmas-centric winter wedding,” says Taylor. “I wanted our day to be sultry, romantic, a little dark and a lot of fun.” Taylor says she started describing her vision as “the ‘Great Gatsby’ meets Succession, just really emulating that New York feel and vibe.” The couple achieved that through florals and decors in black, deep reds, purple, touches of greenery and gold accents. Burgundy taper candles in gold vintage candlesticks were incorporated into tablescapes.

8. Have Santa make a surprise appearance

Megan & Michael
WEDDING DATE December 7, 2024
VENUE Olde Mill Inn
INSPO “Our friends and family say our wedding felt like stepping into a Hallmark Christmas movie come to life!” says Megan. “From the storybook inn brimming with Christmas charm to the white trolley wrapped in wreaths and garland transporting the wedding party to and from the church.” Most memorable of all was surprising their guests with a visit from Santa! “He burst onto the dance floor with a sack of glow sticks and light-up necklaces, posed for photos in the photo booth, and filled the night with pure Christmas magic for everyone,” says Megan.
