Katarina and Dan at Clarks Landing

Posted on November 19, 2019 by Corey Salva

Danny and I both teach at the same school and met there! I remember the first day meeting him, I immediately told my mom about him when I got home. But, because we taught different grades, we hardly saw each other but connected through a mutual friend later on in the school year.
How did you get engaged?
We went into the city in November 2017 to “meet up with friends.” He proposed outside of the Flatiron building and we went out to eat for lunch in Little Italy to celebrate. Afterwards, he had all of our family and friends at home to surprise me and celebrate with us.

Details of the day!
Our style was classic with beachy vibes – we had a lot of blues, greenery, and whites.

Why did you choose your venue?
The minute we got to Clarks Landing, we fell in love. The water, the ballroom, the staff – everyone was AMAZING. We both are big water-lovers too so it was perfect to be right by the river and be able to take our photos on the beach as well! The weekend we chose to get married was a huge weekend for my family as well. My nana’s 89th birthday was the next day and my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary followed that, so we had A LOT to celebrate!

For our cocktail hour we had a massive amount of stations including pirogies and kielbasa (a staple in my family!), slider station, Brazilian station, sushi, wine and cheese, and even a martini luge! For our reception, guests were greeted with a baby spinach salad, followed by a blackberry cabernet sorbet intermezzo, and a main course choice of Chateaubriand, Lady Di Chicken, or the Seafood Trio (Salmon, scallops, and shrimp). Guests could also have second helpings of any of the entrees (though I’m sure many of them were already stuffed from the cocktail hour). For dessert, we had a 3 tier Funfetti cake and guests also chose between cheesecake, molten chocolate cake, and apple galette. As if our guest weren’t full enough, they were given zeppoles and pork roll, egg, and cheese sandwiches in true Jersey fashion.
All about your gown!
I always knew I wanted a form-fitted gown and found this dress the first (and only!) place I went to look. The back blew me away, with the lace detailing and buttons down the bottom. When I walked out in the dress, my sister (MOH) and I instantly cried and I just knew it was the one.

What was your favorite moment?
AH so hard to pick just one. My favorite moment was probably when my dad and Dan stepped out onto the dance floor (surprising both everyone, including themselves) during dinner and did a hilarious dance to a special song between us all.

One detail you couldn’t live without?
We had our flower girls be our grandmothers (“flower grannies”). They were both so excited to be a part of our ceremony in a special way and it meant so much to us that they could.

I got sick in the early morning (probably nerves!) but once hair/makeup arrived and things started rolling, I was ready to rock!

Any advice for future brides?
Don’t stress about all the little details, especially on the day of your wedding because it FLIES by in a blink of your eye. Enjoy every moment you have during your wedding day with one another and live it up!
