Kimia and Evan at The Madison Hotel

Posted on December 02, 2019 by Ariana Baio

We met in medical school during orientation. We later discovered that we both went to Johns Hopkins and at one point he sold me a textbook during our senior year. We thought that was pretty funny.

The day after Match Day for residency, (St. Patrick’s Day, 2018) Evan had this elaborate surprise set up and I had no idea! We had talked about marriage before but I didn’t know when it would actually happen. We went to brunch in NYC and the Met and then around sunset he took me to Bethesda fountain. Usually when we walk through the park it’s very casual but he seemed like he was on a mission. We sat by the fountain, he proposed, and our families came out from hiding. Then we went to a restaurant called Cata in the Lower East Side and all our friends were there, which was amazing. Evan even had planned out getting some of my college friends there who were living across the country. It was so amazing and special. He is very good with surprises, I am not so good at planning out surprises!

We wanted to have a joyful and fun garden party so The Madison Hotel atrium in Morristown, New Jersey set the perfect backdrop. A close friend of ours officiated our sun-filled ceremony and included a song composed by my sister. For my “something borrowed” I borrowed a friend’s wedding veil. After making everything official, our guests enjoyed signature cocktails in the garden and were able to see our celebratory Persain Sofreh Aghd table. Our table markers were based on our favorite TV shows like “Game of Thrones” and “Girls”. Our arrangements were fruit and colorful florals.Once the sun set the dance floor opened and guests enjoyed the night sky above.

We liked the idea of having a party in a space that felt very “open” with many windows, and the garden atrium was a beautiful and practical way to achieve this goal! We also wanted to avoid spaces that appeared too formal.

I liked that it was simple, sleek, and I can move easily when I’m wearing it.

We really enjoyed saying our own vows and listening to each others. We also loved dancing together throughout the night.

We really wouldn’t have changed much, other than probably eat a bit more!

I really enjoyed using minted to get my save-the-dates and invitations. They have many beautiful designs and products, and the process of customizing and printing the invitations was fast and very easy!

Because I have to start my residency orientation on June 10th (two days after the wedding, something I just found out!) we will have to plan a honeymoon for another time.
