How did you meet?
We actually went to the same high school but never knew each other! Our school does a Senior Week trip after graduation, so Travis was a year older than me and was on his Senior Week in Ocean City, Maryland, and I crashed it as a junior and we met through mutual friends and I told him he was cute within minutes of seeing him. We started dating a month later!

How did you get engaged?
He had actually planned to propose to me in Ocean City, Maryland where we had met with all of our friends, but it was the middle of COVID so logistics didn’t quite work out. He knew he wanted to propose on the beach since that’s where we’d met, so he proposed on our family vacation in the Outer Banks!

Details of the day!
We wanted the theme of our wedding to be kind of beachy-boho-elegance, as I would describe it. We got married in October so we definitely wanted some deeper colors when it came to the bridesmaids and groomsmen, so we did terracotta bridesmaids dresses from Revelry in crushed velvet, and black tuxes for the guys. Because we were getting married at the beach, we wanted to incorporate more of those beachy/boho elements as well, so we did florals that were largely white with some wispy touches, and one of my favorite things we did was our seating chart, which were actually customized Himalayan pink salt shot glasses, which were displayed on rattan shelving.

Why did you choose your venue?
We toured a number of venues and I was definitely looking for something that had a more industrial and modern feeling, and when we walked into Wave Resort, it was just one of those instances where just knew that this was the venue. We also felt like it was perfect since we had met at the beach, got engaged at the beach, and would get married at the beach too, so we booked it only a few days after touring it!

What was on your menu?
Our wedding menu was such a hit and there were such great selections to choose from! For our starter, we had a chilled gazpacho, for the appetizer selections we had a wild mushroom ragout with mascarpone, polenta, and parmesan, or lioni burrata, heirloom tomato, baby arugula, and balsamic vinaigrette. Our main courses consisted of herb-roasted chicken with broccolini, mashed potatoes, and lemon jus, or filet mignon with a green onion hash brown and bone marrow bordelaise, or grilled Mahi Mahi with toasted almonds, wild rice pilaf, and chimichurri. Our cake was to die for. It was from Chocolate Carousel and it was a chocolate chip cake with cream cheese filling and buttercream frosting and everyone loved it so much.

All about your gown!
Since I was getting married in October I knew I wanted a long sleeve, lace dress. When I saw this dress on the hanger, I actually didn’t love it, but then they put it on me and pinned it up and turned me around in the mirror and I teared up and just felt like a bride and knew it was the one. It had such intricate detail between the lace, and subtle sequins that gave it a little shimmer and buttons all the way down the back – I couldn’t have asked for anything better.

What was your favorite moment?
I think I had two! 1. There was a huge storm rolling in but we were dying to get pictures on the beach so we quickly ran down with our photographer to grab some and the moment just felt so full circle for us – from meeting when we were 17 and 18 years old on the beach, to now standing on the beach at our wedding 10 years later, and just really getting some time to enjoy how we got there.

2. There’s nothing more I love than a good party, and I’d say our wedding was on the more intimate side with only about 95 people, and there was a moment in the night where just every single person was up and on the dancefloor all together and it’s just such an overwhelmingly joyous feeling when all your family and closest friends are with you and celebrating and just together and having the best time. I kept watching videos to relive it over and over!

One detail you couldn’t live without?
I’d say the DJ – I think in general the entertainment can really make or break your night and ours truly made ours. We had so many people tell us how great the music was and how much fun they had and that they didn’t want to leave the dancefloor! On a personal note, though, I’d say a second dress. I changed into my second dress after we cut the cake and felt like it was so much easier to dance in!

Did anything go wrong?
Yes! I tried not to let it stress me out too much, but my hair person was actually 2 hours late because her phone died and her alarm didn’t go off, so we did end up being a bit rushed, but everyone looked gorgeous so it ended up being ok. My flowers were also supposed to have had color in them (we picked out some sand roses, some small pops of a deeper brownish/pink colored flowers, etc.) and when my bouquet arrived it was all white and I went upstairs and the centerpieces were all white and the arch was all white and just wasn’t what I had envisioned but so many people had said how beautiful the flowers were and how elegant it looked and so I definitely think it turned out ok but just was not what I initially had in mind.

Any advice for future brides?
Go with the flow! There will undoubtedly be things that go wrong or don’t go the way you had originally planned, but no matter what, it will be the most memorable night of your life so just take it in and enjoy all the big moments, but all the little ones too. Also, just do what makes you happy. you’re going to get a ton of opinions from every direction but at the end of the day, it’s YOUR day so make sure you’re not looking back with regrets on things you wish you would’ve done but didn’t.
