Olivia Radon was bartending when Brett Egner first saw her and decided to ask her out. But she didn’t date patrons. Instead, she jokingly told him he needed the approval of her mother, and pointed to a co-worker who kept up the ruse. It was a test, and he passed. “He got up in front of the entire bar and asked her for permission to ask me out,” Olivia recalls of that day in 2009 at Valleybrook Country Club in Blackwood. “We’ve been together since.”
They tied the knot on May 2, 2014, in Atlantic City. Brett, from Buckingham, Pennsylvania, and Olivia, from Franklinville, had a traditional afternoon ceremony at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church. Olivia wore a strapless gown with floral appliqués and green platform sandals, and Brett was decked out in a classic black tuxedo. Though the couple welcomed 220 guests, Olivia felt like she and Brett were the only ones there as they exchanged vows. “It felt like the world stopped moving,” she recalls.
They then posed for photos on the chilly beach and boardwalk, and everyone walked to the event space One Atlantic for an evening of dinner and dancing. The reception was filled with Olivia’s palette of emerald green and gold, set against the venue’s sweeping views overlooking the Atlantic. “You kind of feel like you’re on top of the ocean,” she says. “It’s breathtaking.”
The couple and their guests boogied to modern tunes and old-school favorites, and they danced the polka, too. “We danced from the minute we walked in until the minute we walked out,” Olivia says. “Our band was off the charts.” Brett’s surprise for Olivia, which she caught on to earlier on their wedding day, came when it was time to cut the green, gold and ivory cake. She had made one slice when a fireworks show began and the group gathered outside to watch from the deck. “I’ve never been to a wedding where there were fireworks,” she says. “I loved it.”
Other than the pyrotechnics, Olivia planned the wedding herself, creating the right mix of vintage and modern touches with an emphasis on elegance and simplicity. The results exceeded her expectations. “It was just awesome,” she says. “I got to marry my best friend.” The couple honeymooned in Australia and Bora Bora, and are home in Yardley, Pennsylvania.
