Jacqueline and Andrew’s Backyard Wedding

Posted on September 24, 2020 by Ariana Baio

How did you meet?
We met in 2010 while on a cruise with our respective families. When we initially got on the boat, we knew we had to meet each and were surprised to find we were seated next to each other at dinner. After the cruise, we exchanged phone numbers and talked every night on the phone. Since we lived in different states, we began dating long distance. After about four years of long distance, I moved to New Jersey.

We originally chose the cruise because that’s where we met and we wanted to celebrate our 10-year anniversary getting married where we met. But Covid had other plans. We decided to have our backyard ceremony because we just bought our first house in February and we thought it would be a great story to share with our future children. But we are having our larger reception at Running Deer in September.Jacqueline and Andrew

Catering was from Rodes and we got beef brisket, roasted vegetables, baked mac and cheese, red-skinned potatoes and a garden salad. Our cake was gluten-free vanilla with vanilla buttercream. It was semi-naked cake topped with blueberries and raspberries.Jacqueline and Andrew

My gown was the Riley Luxe by Made With Love. I got it at Lovely Bride in Philly. I knew I wanted something more lightweight and airy since we were getting married on a cruise and I loved the boho look. I knew I wanted something more form-fitting so my figure didn’t get lost in the dress. It had flattering lace patterns that didn’t cover the whole dress so it gave timeless smooth look. The top had a plunging neckline with an inclusion panel, and the straps and bust had lace that had tulle wings that could attach to them. There were also illusion cut-outs on the sides, and it had an open back with covered buttons down the back.Jacqueline and Andrew

My favorite moment of the day was our first look. I felt like all my nerves washed away and I was back with the person who kept me grounded. I knew that no matter what happened that day or if things didn’t go to plan that it didn’t matter because I have him and I was going to marry the love of my life. When he first saw me he had some tears in the corner of his eyes and the biggest smile on his face, and I just knew we made the best decision to still get married and not postpone.Jacqueline and Andrew

At the end of the night we had Mister Softee come for our guests! It was so fun to see the surprise on their faces when he came into our yard. Everyone loved the ice cream.Jacqueline and Andrew

Yes! So many things! It started raining right before the ceremony, so all the groomsmen started to bring in the table settings that we had set up the night before. We didn’t make our signature drinks, we forgot to take the cake out of the fridge three hours before the wedding so it was still cold, my hair didn’t hold up from the weather, and it was about to downpour so our officiant ( brother-in-law) cut our ceremony down to 10 minutes. We got our pictures in, then we ran under the tent and it down-poured the rest of the night. It was still such a magical day, and I loved it.Jacqueline and Andrew

My advice would be to truly do whatever is going to make you and your future spouse happy. We got a lot of unsolicited advice when planning our cruise and then when planning during a pandemic. We never changed our values and we stuck by what was going to make us happy. Also you and your husband are a team.Jacqueline and Andrew

We plan to go to Iceland when we can travel again.
