Why Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Should Get Married in New Jersey

The A-lister has unexpected ties to the Jersey Shore.

Sure, she’s an A-lister now, but back in the ’90s and early 2000s, Taylor Swift was just a girl from Pennsylvania who spent her summers at the Jersey Shore. So when the editors at New Jersey Bride heard this week that she’d gotten engaged to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, we immediately came to the conclusion that a Jersey wedding was the only way for the couple to go on their big day.

Don’t believe us? Here are five reasons why Taylor, 35, and Travis, 35, should say “I do” in the Garden State.

Taylor grew up going to the Jersey Shore—and adored it.

Taylor’s family owned a home on the bay in Stone Harbor from 1992-2004, and she’s even called the seven-mile island a “magical place to grow up.” Taylor honed her musical chops as a teen in Stone Harbor. “I used to sing karaoke at Henry’s [on Third Avenue] and play acoustic shows for hours on end at Coffee Talk, a little cafe on 98th Street,” Swift said in a 2009 interview with the Philadelphia Inquirer. “I used to drag my parents into those places all the time, and all of their friends would show up and put dollars in my tip jar. When I was younger, I used to play for hours and hours in cafes like that. When I would run out of material, I’d just start making up songs on the spot.”

The family gave up their Shore house upon moving from Wyomissing, Pennsylvania (located near Reading) to Nashville for Taylor’s budding music career.

Taylor’s former vacation town has so much love for her, the Stone Harbor Museum dedicated an exhibition to the songstress last year featuring childhood photos and other items.

Jack Antonoff’s wedding could provide inspiration.

In August of 2023, Taylor’s pal and producer Jack Antonoff, a Bergenfield native, tied the knot with actress Margaret Qualley on Long Beach Island. The pair hosted their nuptials at Parker’s Garage, a restaurant and events venue that defines casual and coastal cool. “Perfect sunset views, excellent food, a cozy coastal vibe and also two blocks from the beach—it pretty much has it all,” photographer Ann Coen, who has photographed many weddings at Parker’s Garage (but not Jack and Margaret’s) told New Jersey Bride in 2023. “…They have the boat slips out back, they kept the wood floor and walls, and all of the decor is real antiques and photos from local baymen of the last 100 years.”

So if Taylor wants to harken back to the easy, breezy Shore days of her youth (but with an elevated aesthetic), she could follow Antonoff’s lead.

The people of Jersey love her.

When Jack and Margaret tied the knot, LBI was overrun with celebrities, including Zoë Kravitz and Channing Tatum (a couple at the time), Lana Del Rey, and Margaret’s mother, actress Andie MacDowell. But Taylor made the biggest splash of all, sparking a fan frenzy and tons of traffic throughout Beach Haven. Earlier in 2023, which was a huge year for Taylor, fans flocked to MetLife Stadium for a trio of sold-out shows. Who wouldn’t want to get married in a state that consistently shows you so much love?

Her future brother- and sister-in-law have a Shore house.

Travis’ brother, retired NFL player Jason Kelce, and his wife, Kylie Kelce, have a Shore house in Sea Isle City—so a Jersey wedding would be convenient for at least some of the couple’s relatives. Jason and Kylie are very involved in the Sea Isle community; this summer he hosted his fifth annual Team 62 fundraiser—a wildly fun event which even saw Jason don an American flag Speedo this year—to benefit the Eagles Autism Foundation. Travis has attended in the past.

Taylor and Travis can keep the garden theme going.

If Taylor and Travis want to keep the garden theme going—he popped the question in a gorgeous flower-filled garden that may be a nod to her similarly styled “Lover” photoshoot—what better place to get married than the Garden State? There are so many beautiful New Jersey venues with gardens that would be great options for a Taylor/Travis wedding. Some favorites include Crossed Keys Estate in Andover, Morven Museum & Garden in Princeton, Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, and Skylands Manor in Ringwood.
