Rain On Your Wedding Day

Posted on May 17, 2018 by Allison Dupree

Sing it with us now “It’s like rain on your wedding day” (you know that Alanis Morissette song we’re talking about)

While rain might not be exactly what you envisioned for saying “I do,” that doesn’t mean it still won’t be everything you’ve imagined. Having a back up plan for your outdoor ceremony is a must, and still taking your photos outside in the rain might be an amazing decision.

If it’s set to rain on your big day, remember that rain on your wedding day is meant to be good luck! While that might be hard to believe that, keep in mind the day itself—your wedding! Don’t let a little rain stop you from being over the moon about marrying your best friend, after all, that’s the whole point of your wedding.

Here at New Jersey Bride, we’ve seen thousands upon thousands of wedding photos, and some of our favorites happen to be from rainy days. Also, most photographers will tell you that rainy or overcast days make for far better photos than brighter, sunny days. Take a look at these for some backup ideas for your day of portraits!

Pro tip: Have some big golf umbrellas (in your wedding colors) on hand to take adorable pictures. Or you and your husband can have clear bubble umbrellas to take your portraits as well. Also stock up on rain boots—in some really fun colors. Not only will you save your Jimmy Choos from being destroyed, but your pictures will look amazing.

Karina and Omar– “Our wedding was everything we could have imagined.  In fear of rain we opted for an indoor ceremony and a “first look” prior to the ceremony for pictures.  We took pictures in Hoboken with NYC back drop.  Rain was on its way but the clouds made for some dramatic pictures.”

Jamie and Daniel– “There is absolutely nothing you can do about the weather,” says Jamie. “Roll with the punches and make the best of it. And, hey, maybe even jump in a puddle!”

Meghan and Anthony–  “Don’t stress the things you can’t control! WEATHER…fire alarms! lol Everything works out just fine in the end and it makes the day more memorable!”

Maggie and Bryan– “Who cares if the wedding dress got muddy during your first look, or the groom’s hair is soaked if you’re about to marry the love of your life?’

Lauren and Thomas– “Looking back, our bridal portraits and group shots with the umbrellas are now some of our favorites! It really wouldn’t have been the same day without the rain, fog, and umbrellas.”

“Do not be afraid of rain, or any weather that isn’t sun – embrace it! Buy the umbrellas! No matter what, it will be the best day of your life.”

Samantha and Troy– “Well, first off… it rained. I was upset for about 5 seconds and then was having too much fun to notice!”

Emily and Alex– “An hour before our ceremony it started pouring. We actually got amazing photos from the rain though.”
