Envisioning a hip celebration with phenomenal views of Manhattan without having to leave the state? Well, you’re in luck. Jersey City is home to a sophisticated selection of wedding venues, whether you’re looking for large or intimate, urban or traditional, modern or chic. Add award-winning chefs, creative vendors, breathtaking photo ops, a variety of hotel options and proximity to Newark Liberty International Airport, and you’ve got your dream location.
“Jersey City is pretty unique,” says wedding photographer Bri Johnson, whose studio is located here. “There are a range of wedding venues from upscale modern ballrooms to small intimate venues and restaurants. The NYC skyline is the common thread for those who get married here, along with a love of the city—both New York and Jersey City.”
Photographer Rebecca Ferrier, also based in Jersey City, agrees and describes her couples as modern, sophisticated—and savvy. “Jersey City venues offer an extraordinary view of the skyline with high-quality metropolitan service and food at a fraction of the cost of Manhattan prices.”
As for special spots for engagement photos and pictures the day of, both photographers have their favorites. “I may be biased since I was married here in 2018, but I love Jersey City’s City Hall,” Johnson says. “It has gorgeous architecture, a central location and specific appointment times—unlike NYC City Hall where you grab a ticket and wait in line. Getting married at Jersey City’s City Hall felt really personal, intimate and special.”
Ferrier is partial to Liberty State Park. “There are so many hidden spots that are beautiful to shoot in besides the skyline,” she says. “You just need to know the right folks to take you there! We also love integrating Jersey City’s beautiful murals as well as some of the quaint downtown streets.”
