How did you meet?

I was at a bridal show for my best friend’s wedding 5 years ago. Her mom and mom’s coworker are nurses and both needed the same day off for their child’s weddings. I made a comment jokingly asking if her coworker had any other sons and to set me up. So she called her, right there in the car on the way home! She had him add me on Facebook and we started chatting. He asked me to go to a concert with him the following weekend, but we decided to meet in person first. We’re both huge bookworms, so we thought Barnes and Noble would make the most sense to meet. We got coffee, sat and talked for a few hours, roamed the store looking at different books and discussing our favorites. We hit it off right there and when we left, we hugged goodbye in the parking lot, and I knew in that moment, he would be it.

How he asked!

The night before we got engaged, I suggested we go to Barnes and Noble the next day because it was 5 years to the day we had our “meet and greet” as we called it. I wanted to just go and get a picture of our coffees to post on snapchat, “5 years ago today, we meet right here”. I had no idea he was already planning to bring me there, and for weeks he was freaking out how he was going to get me out of bed on a Sunday morning. So when I said that Saturday afternoon, he said he was so relieved because his plan was going to work.

We got up the next morning, and I was tired, and tried suggesting we go in the afternoon, after the football game. He said no, he wanted to go early, and get home to just be home for the day. So after some back and forth, I finally got up and showered and dressed. We went to Barnes and Noble and got right online for our coffee. The line was taking forever, and he was getting antsy. I was getting annoyed that he was so antsy, and kept telling him to relax, it was early, and there was only one worker.

We finally get our coffees and I headed to the tables, but he headed in another direction.  I, annoyed, asked him where he was going, and if we could at least take the picture first.  He said he wants to look at something real quick, so I follow him down the aisle, and am questioning why he’s going towards the cookbooks. I’m thinking to myself, we have plenty of cookbooks at home, what could possibly be down here that he needs to look at immediately. (All the signs and it’s still not registering what is about to happen)

He suddenly stops and turns to look at me with a huge smile on his face. I stand there confused at first and then to my surprise I see a book set up, with the pages folded to read “Marry Me?” At that moment, Cory begins to talk about the last 5 years together and how he wants a life time more. He got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. I of course said “Yes!”

After I stopped shaking and realized I wasn’t getting my picture of our coffee for social media, we began the fun of face-timing our families and friends.  We went to visit some family to tell them in person, and ended our “engagement tour” back at my parents’ house for a little celebration with both our parents and my best friend and her husband.  We had food, drinks, and popped champagne to begin the next chapter of our lives!
