A dog walking down the aisle can be one of the cutest sights at a wedding—next to the bride of course. But there’s a lot more to getting Fido to walk on cue than many would think. That’s where a pet wedding attendant comes in handy—someone to get your furry friend properly dressed and to the church on time; keep them safe and under control at all times; assist with photos; provide walks, food and water; attend to throughout the reception; and offer ideas on how they can be involved throughout your entire wedding day.

Doreen Orlich of My Personal Touch by Doreen and Alicia has been a pet attendant at weddings for the past 10 years. “Pets are a part of our families,” she says. “So why not have them be a part of your special day?” She advises that you first make sure your pet is okay around a lot of people, especially in new environments, and that they’re not aggressive with adults or children. Orlich also suggests to include your pet on your save-the-date, to practice with him in advance and to let your photographer know before the wedding. The more that everyone is prepared for Fido, the smoother the day will go.
