As you all know, it’s cold outside…so cold that I can’t quite motivate to leave my home laptop and get up to the office. But as I sit here assigning articles for the next issue and organizing blogs for the week, I can’t help but daydream about warm-weather places—warm-weather places that are perfect for your honeymoon. I know that I’ve told you about my favorites before, but here’s another mini guide to my all-time favorite spots (which also happen to make fabulous honeymoon locations): 1. Caneel Bay. This upscale yet understated resort on the island of St. John is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. With rooms just steps from the beach (above), I’m warming up just imagining myself snorkeling, lounging on the sand or reading Vanity Fair in my beach chair as the sound of the waves laps onto the shore and lulls me into a peaceful and calm state. It was here that a friend talked me into the virtues of a Kindle—and this is one of the few places where my Kindle would be utilized all day. The open-air breakfast buffet should be replicated by every resort in the world, macaroons at late-afternoon tea are just simply the best (especially since they’re gluten-free), dinner in one of the three restaurants onsite is top-notch and fun in town (at a variety of bars and really good restaurants) is just a short taxi ride away. The one thing lacking? Television. It’s up to you to decide whether that’s a bad thing. I think I need to book a trip back right now. caneelbay.com 2. Four Seasons Nevis. Nevis is truly a tie for me with St. John, but I had to make someone #1 and someone #2. This is another quiet, laid-back island with some of the best resorts in the world. Service at the Four Seasons can’t be beat…and here at this beach resort they’ll bring you complimentary homemade ice cream, frozen fruit, and other goodies all day as you bask in the sun or have fun in one of the private beach cabanas. Every water sport imaginable is available, along with the best tennis facility in the Caribbean and an 18-hole championship golf course populated with monkeys. The restaurants are amazing, and there’s truly nothing better than an afternoon spent at the adult pool. Oh, and then there’s the spa. The most beautiful spa you’ve ever seen. I actually asked if they could host weddings inside of it. Of course, they can. Heaven. On. Earth. fourseasons.com/nevis 3. Cap Juluca. This Greco-Moorish-inspired resort on the tiny island of Anguilla is situated along the perimeter of one of the most picturesque beaches in the world. When you come to Cap Juluca, you come for the beach. And it does not disappoint. Sailboats owned by the mega-rich anchor and visit for the day, as its occupants are ferried up to the resort to relax and dine. Celebrities and famous athletes get married here. But Cap Juluca emits such a relaxed vibe that you’ll feel completely comfortable and at home—they treat you as if you’re the rock star. If you’re looking for a little action, local fresh-fish eateries and reggae bars are fun alternatives. capjuluca.com 4. Four Seasons Hualalai.Mention Hawaii—specifically the Big Island—and I get a huge smile on my face. It’s just special here. And if you’ve ever been, you’ll know what I’m talking about. The locals told me that “the volcano likes me,” which is one way to explain my fondness. Other explanations include the variety of resorts, abundance of fresh fruit and freshly caught fish, sophisticated restaurants, black-sand beaches, an active volcano, the feeling of a still unexploited Hawaii and the cutest darned airport you’ve ever seen in your life. And the crown jewel of all of this goodness is the Four Seasons Hualalai. It’s the Four Seasons service that gets me everytime…they truly know how to make your stay special. Besides the beach, 3 restaurants, 2 lounges, tennis, spa, and Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, there are 7 pools, including the most beautiful and unique pond where you can go swimming and snorkeling among 3,000 tropical fish. Truly special. Oh, and on my last trip there, I just happened to run into Megan Fox and Brian Austin Green, the day after they got married at the resort. Celebrities like it here because they feel like they can truly escape. Good enough for me. fourseasonshualalai.com OK, so now where are you headed? Let me know what your favorites are, especially for your honeymoon. In the meantime, I’m going to go check airfares and try to stay warm.
