Details of the day:
Wedding Dress: Ivory Vera Wang White Ball Gown with VW black sash tied bow. I did not wear a veil, instead used classic Alexander McQueen skull scarf as “veil accessory”. Shoes were Tory Burch cheetah print converse style sneaker/loafers. Michael Kors black Swarovski crystal bracelet to match Black Diamond engagement ring and wedding band.
Seating cards were a play on “milk and cookies” one of our favorite snacks – Milk cartons were assembled and I made labels to include our “wedding logo” – 1/2 day of dead artsy skull (Tanya) with 1/2 Punisher comic book skull (Jonathan)
Favors: Homemade Jam in two flavors – Blackberry Bourbon, Strawberry Champagne with DIY ‘thank you’ labels
Parting gift: Homemade trick or treat bags full of candy with DIY labels
Decorating: 30-40 hand-carved classic face pumpkins to line the outside patio
Table #s: Assorted zombie art from the “Walking Dead” comic series (our favorite)
The Band: The Benjamins – a New Jersey classic cover band, one of the first live bands we saw together as a couple
First Dance: Muse, Starlight – Non-traditional, whimsical and fun
Your favorite part: Besides marrying the man of my dreams, with all our closest family and friends to share it with… two things:
My dance with my dad. I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect song (johnny cash, you are my sunshine) to capture how much he really means to me. He used to sing the song to me when I was little, and JC is never NOT playing on his radio. When all the guests cheered and whistled for us, it may have been the highlight of my life – that moment with him.
The photography. We were lucky enough to set up an awesome shoot at Brighton Asylum Haunted Attraction prior to our ceremony and we had SO much fun rocking out non-traditional pictures, feeling like rock-stars on our photo shoot day with Jeff Tisman photogrpahy. You felt like you were modeling for the cover of Vogue! It’s not every couple that can say they have wedding pictures with cadavers and coffins.
If you could change one thing about your wedding what would it be? Don’t stress on “perfection”. My friends know me as the OCD,perfectionist type – I stressed over labels printing 1cm crooked…..trust me, everyone notices the thought, not the measurements. YOUR day will be perfect, (even if it’s a millimeter off).
Advice for other brides: Don’t be afraid to be “different” if that’s what you want to be.
No one understood our “zombie theme” with “asylum wedding photos”, walking dead art and skull “veil”…. but these things are what we ARE. There’Tanya and Jonathan Halloween Weddings a time and place for everything – We concentrated on keeping our wedding classic and traditional, while incorporating those “different” things that make us who we are as a couple – without turning it into a circus freakshow….. Pretty fall foliage pictures for mom, creepy coffin love scene shots for the couple 😉 Happy Halloween!
