“At 42 years old, my wedding day was something I waited a lifetime for and honestly wasn’t sure would ever happen.”

“We had an intimate event with 50 guests. Our small Victorian hotel in Cape May was the perfect setting for our winter wedding.  The Virginia Hotel was decorated perfectly; From the garland to the lights and Christmas balls–there was such a warm feeling from the moment you walked in. The day was such a blur–like many people said it would be–but putting on that strapless, lace wedding dress was a dream.  I was able to use part of my mother’s headpiece to make a modern version for myself.  I also wrapped a piece of the lace from my mother’s bridal gown around my bouquet. My bouquet also included a blue glass cameo that belonged to my “nana” and my grandmother’s charms accompanied it.  It was wonderful feeling like they were there with me.”

“As for his look, my husband wanted to go with a more hip style and so he purchased a blue jacket with fitted grey pants. Of course he was sporting his suspenders that he loves! My matron of honor was my best friend but she looks like my sister. And my husband had his younger brother as his best man. We also had my three nephews in the wedding; they are the sons of my only brother, so it was important to me that they were included in the wedding.”

“We held the ceremony on the landing of the grand staircase in front of a stain glass window.  Our reverend made our ceremony fun and tried to include our guests which was really great. Afterward, guests proceeded downstairs to the cocktail hour while we took photos outside with family. It was great because the Virginia Hotel offered many little rooms for people to gather and really enjoy conversation.”

“The reception was in the Ebbitt Room within the Virginia Hotel–which is their restaurant.  The food was outstanding!  We did the traditional first dances and speeches but after that, it was down to really enjoying the people who came to celebrate this wonderful day with us. I was lucky enough to have a friend make our wedding cake and for her first time, it was unbelievable! Everyone went on and on about how amazing the cake was and how honored I was that she took on such and undertaking to be a special part of our wedding.”

“We ended the wedding with a duet performed by me and my father. We recorded a Christmas CD many years ago and we sang I’ll Be Home for Christmas. Before our guests left, we did a group photo on the hotel’s amazing front porch and I’m just so thrilled that the weather cooperated for us on our fabulously cool wedding date of 12/13/14″

If you could change one thing about your wedding what would it be?
“Trying to plan a wedding in South Jersey when you’re from North Jersey can be interesting. It was hard not being able to just run over to the venue if needed.”
