How did you meet?
We met as kids at the same summer camp! We also went to the same middle and high school and we were really close friends before we started dating when we were 16.

How did you get engaged?
Stephen had a bunch of really romantic and sweet ideas but none of them worked for a lot of reasons (not the least of which was COVID). He decided we needed to go and do something one day and asked me to pick a number between one and 20. I picked 19, but there are only 18 exits north of us on the Parkway. We ended up driving to the Ramapo Reservation, where I had actually spent a lot of time in college. It was absolutely freezing though since it was mid-January, so after a short walk we went back to the car and once we both warmed up a bit he said, “Look, I’ve had so many ideas and plans for this but none of them have worked so—will you marry me?” And that was it!

Why did you choose your venue?
I really loved the way the different spaces within the venue were decorated and the huge barn/former church area where we had the ceremony. It was also pretty close to equidistant for the handful of people we had there, which definitely helped.

What was on your menu?
A small assortment of cold-cut sandwiches and sides. We had a small cake that was a white cake with cream-cheese filling and cupcakes of that flavor, and a chocolate cake with coffee-mousse filling. Both were delicious!

All about your gown!
It’s a sleeveless A-line dress with floral appliqués and a small train. I loved it as soon as I saw pictures of it. It was delicate and ethereal and not too much dress for me. I actually hadn’t tried it on until after I bought it because I purchased it from a woman in Arizona. When I did try it on it was everything I had wanted it to be, and I felt magical.

What was your favorite moment?
My favorite moment was probably when my husband was saying his vows and I realized we had written almost the exact same vows and I just got overwhelmed. Accidentally having our “first dance” to a Meatloaf song I put on the playlist just for him is a close second.

One detail you couldn’t live without?
It wasn’t actually planned but the flowers in my hair! I have a habit of picking flowers and just sticking them in my hair, so when my mom came in with them it just seemed perfect. It made me feel more like myself and less stressed.

Did anything go wrong?
The original florist we were going to work with had to cancel for a family emergency a little under two weeks before the wedding and I completely panicked. Thankfully Emily’s, the caterer we had, recommended Dahlia’s to my mom and the owner Lauren was amazing and made sure everything was perfect!

Any advice for future brides?
Make sure you have a wedding you’ll enjoy, and make sure you delegate! I initially tried to do everything I could myself and it definitely was not a good idea. Having a few people you trust to help/make decisions will infinitely lower your stress, and you have enough to stress about already. As for having a wedding you’ll enjoy, this is you and your fiancé’s day. It’s fine if what you want isn’t necessarily what other people think a wedding “should be”—it’s not their wedding. So have fun and let people help you!

Honeymoon Location?
We went for a long weekend up in Saugerties, New York, but we’re planning on doing a full honeymoon around our first anniversary next year. Hopefully either to the Big Island of Hawaii or a road trip around the National Parks of the Southwest.
