Michelle and Bradley at The Crystal Plaza

A Fall Wedding at The Crystal Plaza - New Jersey Bride

“As soon as we got engaged in July 2013, Brad and I started to research magazines, websites (including NJ Bride!) and of course, relied on friends and family to envision the overall feel of our wedding. We both wanted an elegant and dramatic wedding incorporating personal touches.”

“Our first decision was the venue. We were immediately impressed with our initial visit to Crystal Plaza, with the stately brick-and-mortar facade of the mansion. We loved the spectacular ballroom, the impressive grounds and the bountiful amenities the Crystal Plaza provided. Everyone we worked with there made us feel special and emphasized how it was our day and how willing and happy they were to make it all happen.”

“I knew I wanted to wear a full, beaded, embellished ball gown. After trying on a few possibilities and setting one aside at another store, I tried on an Eve of Milady gown and immediately teared up; I knew it was the one! My mom and godmother also wore Eve of Milady on their wedding days, which added a special element and legacy that made my gown even more meaningful.”

“My bridesmaids chose wine-colored floor length Jim Hjelm taffeta gowns with a modified sweetheart neckline and a small train in the back. My maid of honor, my younger sister Alex, wore a black taffeta Watters gown with side ruching similar to the other bridesmaids, yet standing out in her special role. The groomsmen and ushers donned black tuxedos with wine-colored vests to compliment the bridesmaids.”

“We couldn’t choose a second or third color, so we decided – why not use them all? Our flowers tied in with calla lilies of our main color, paired with white hydrangeas (my favorite), yellow spray roses, circus and hot pink roses and tiny green hydrangea. Our goal was to fill the room with rich, bright colors, appropriate for the time of year as well as the overall ambiance of our wedding.”

“Some special components of our day surrounded our family and friends; I wrapped a rosary from my godfather’s late wife around my bouquet, and our celebrant had performed several sacraments for several generations in Brad’s family. My grandmother Mickey read the first reading in church (and did it phenomenally!); our godmothers presented the gifts, and we had a special table at the reception with photographs of those special to us who have passed on. Several of Brad’s friends are in the military, including two close friends that were currently deployed, and their names were woven throughout the day so they were honored and felt with their presence. I surprised Brad with a pre-recorded video speech of his best friend Rob who is overseas extending his well wishes. While our wedding day was about us, it was also about all of those who love and support us, and helped us become who we are today.”

“In all, our wedding day was perfect. Brad and I feel so blessed, and are overly appreciative to those who spent the time and effort in helping our ideas and aspirations materialize into the most special day of our lives.”

Your favorite part:
“My favorite part of the day is when it was time to walk down the aisle. It was a special moment between my father and I, and Brad’s face was priceless when he first saw me-holding back a few tears.  I wasn’t nervous, but excited knowing our wedding was the beginning of our wonderful journey together.”

Advice for other brides:
“Don’t sweat the small stuff! Remember that while this is a huge day in your and your fiancé’s lives, it is just one day. You are doing this to spend the rest of your life with a very special person; the little things pale in comparison to the true significance of your wedding.”
