I was on spring break from graduate school and Kevin had planned a romantic getaway. He took me to my favorite place in the whole world- Paris. On the night of the proposal, he surprised me with dinner at the Eiffel Tower. When the clock struck to a new hour, the entire tower lit up and that’s when he asked me to marry him. It was like being on top of a cloud. It was completely magical and real life fairy tale.
Why did you choose your venue?
With my parent’s 30th wedding anniversary approaching, we chose the Birchwood Manor as our wedding venue to honor them. I wanted our first dance as husband and wife to be on the exact ballroom floor as my parents had. In my eyes the Birchwood Manor is the only place to have your events because of their big hearts, attention to detail and no request in their eyes is too great for them to honor!
What was on your menu
Our reception menu started with a cranberry leaf salad with a balsamic vinaigrette. A lemon sorbet as the intermezzo. For the entrées guest could choose between prime rib, chicken Frances or grilled salmon. Dessert was wedding cake and a Viennese table of deserts. Our wedding cake was four tiers of white buttercream with alternative layers of chocolate moose filling and cannoli filling.
All about your gown!
I wanted to look like my own version of Princess Kate. My dress was from Kleinfeld Bridal. It’s a Dennis Basso’s Modern Ballgown Style 14141N with long sleeves and a mixture of lace and sheer with beading details. It had a sweetheart neckline with a full satin skirt and tulle underneath. I knew the gown was the one because I have never felt so beautiful as I did then when I was wearing it. The instant I saw myself in the mirror, I started to cry- as did my parents. I had a cathedral veil and a blusher blusher that matched my gown.
What was your favorite moment?
The moment of Kevin seeing the me for the first time, walking down the aisle, after a year and half of planning was the most anticipated and special moment of the entire wedding day. What made this moment even more special was the fact that we did not see each other the week of the wedding and only for a few short hours at the rehearsal the night before really made the wedding day that much more special for us.
One detail you couldn’t live without?
All the Christmas trees throughout the church and venue otherwise it just wouldn’t have felt like a Christmas wedding. Getting the Christmas trees in the venue wasn’t a problem but trying to get Christmas trees up at the alter in the church was no easy feat. It wasn’t until right before the wedding that my fiancé worked his charm and gave me a little Christmas wedding miracle, he got me trees and not just one up but he got me six at the alter!
Did anything go wrong?
Did anything go wrong? Yes! There were some details I wanted done by the florist before the wedding, but we found at the rehearsal dinner that they couldn’t be done. Luckily, Birchwood Manor worked all night and right up until the next day to make sure they were there.
First dance song?
The Gift by Jim Brickman.
Any advice for future brides?
Stay on top of your vendors, meet with them often and make sure you are getting everything you want. Enjoy every second of the day and night, it goes by so fast. At the end of the day it’s your wedding and you’re going to get everyone’s opinion throughout the whole wedding planning process but only your opinion matters.
