Alexandra and Mike at The Ridge at Back Brook

Alexandra and Mike Get Married in Plaid at The Ridge at Back Brook in Ringoes “Sweet, funny, smart and incredibly intelligent.” These were the qualities that attracted Mike Stienstra, 29, to Ali Almour, 31. “Since I am an actuary, there’s no way I can be anything but the dorky one of the couple,” Mike says. “But somehow, it works.” Wedding Party Photographs atAlexandra and Mike's Wedding The Ridge at Back Brook, Ringoes After dating Mike for 14 months, Ali came home late one night from a work event and walked upstairs to the glow of candles and a bouquet of hydrangea. The computer screen instructed her to “sit down, don’t look around, and hit ‘enter.’” A very thoughtful and silly PowerPoint presentation played, and then Mike came out of a closet dressed in a suit, and got down on one knee. The couple set a date: December 28, 2013, then started to plan their quirky, whimsical and very original wedding. Unique Detail at Alexandra and Mike's Wedding Reception at The Ridge at Back Brook, Ringoes Ali had been to a business event at the Ridge at Back Brook, and fell in love with it. “Mike and I both like log homes, so it seemed like the perfect fit. I had always loved the idea of a winter wedding, and the place felt so warm, like a ski lodge.” In keeping with the winter-wedding, ski-lodge feeling, Ali and Mike decided on a red tartan Christmas theme. “We are not Scottish,” Ali says. “I just felt that red plaid said ‘classy Christmas,’ as opposed to reindeer and Santa.” They used the plaid on almost everything, but still tried to keep it understated. Ali wore a red blouse with her wedding dress, the table runners were a mix of plaids, the groomsmen sported plaid ties, the bridesmaids had plaid sashes and monogrammed mittens—even the bouquets were wrapped with tartan ribbon. Florals at Alexandra and Mike's Winter Wedding at The Ridge at Back Brook, Ringoes Plaid was not the only unique detail. “I had seen on Pinterest that people used Mad Libs for RSVP cards and thought it would be fun,” Ali says. “I asked my stepsister to make one up and she did an awesome job. People’s responses were adorable and funny. Some people took it seriously, and others made it silly.” Ali surprised Mike, who is from Wisconsin, by having his high-school logo—MUKWONAGO—sewn onto the underskirt of her dress. The groom’s cake also paid quirky homage to Mike’s hometown: The top was a hunk of “cheese” topped with beer bottles made of Rice Krispies treats. One of Ali’s favorite treats is popcorn, so there was a popcorn station featuring white cheddar and cinnamon sugar flavors. At the end of the evening, guests left with jars of their own.
