Details of the Day: We are both teachers and coaches so there is little downtime for us in terms of an off-season. Lila coaches Field Hockey and Lacrosse in the fall and spring while Jen coaches basketball and swimming in the winter and summer. July was the perfect month we could take some time off and celebrate our wedding with our family and friends. This location meant a lot to us because we both went to college in the area with Jen having graduated from Drew University and Lila from Fairleigh Dickenson University. Playing sports there we were college rivals and always enjoyed the area of Florham Park and Madison. We had been to the hotel many times for different events and trips to Vanderbilt’s and loved the idea of having all of the weekend’s festivities held in one location in the area we both loved so much. The people at the Wyndham Hamilton Park Hotel were wonderful to work with and gave us all of the aspects of the wedding we had always dreamed of. We were able to have our rehearsal dinner in Morristown which was another one of our favorite spots to visit. We wanted the theme of our wedding to be simple elegance with some touches that showed who we are as people and as a couple.
Such details included: Centerpieces: mixture between some tables having tall vases with greenery, votives and mirrors and some tables had white lanterns, votives and white roses/hydrangeas. Table numbers: frames with chalk board numbers because we are both teachers. Candy Bar of all our favorite sweets. Picture sign in book of our favorite pictures/memories as a couple. Personalized basketball and field hockey sticks display. Signature Drink: Married Margaritas. Favor- personalized stemless wine glasses and a donation to the NJ Organization of Cystic Fibrosis in memory of Jen’s best friend Laura.
Favorite Detail: We love the small little touches that showed who we are as people as a couple such as the basketball and field hockey stick display because we both played college sports and continue to coach. (Jen- basketball/Lila- field hockey) This display showed our names and wedding date all intertwined.
Favorite Moment: Special Moment in the courtyard of the hotel seeing each other for the first time. And walking into the reception for the first time as a married couple and seeing a room full of our family and friends.
Couldn’t Live Without: Lila’s opinion: Carvel Cake for dessert; Jen’s Opinion: Live acoustic music.
Something That Went Wrong: Nothing went wrong as it really was the perfect day with perfect sunny 75-degree weather in July. The only thing we can think of is Lila’s dress took so long to lace up in the back that Jen was ready first and ended up going down to the garden to wait for her. All along Jen was supposed to walk down the path to a waiting Lila for their special moment. Since Lila wasn’t ready because of her dress Jen went first and Lila walked down to meet her. Opposite of what was expected but it didn’t matter in the end.
