Details of the day: My husband and I met at Rutgers in 2009 and got engaged in September 2013. Our favorite season is summer and my favorite color is yellow, so we decided on an August wedding–and it was perfect. We got married in the church that I was baptized in – Our Lady of Victories in Sayreville, NJ — and our reception was at the newly-renovated The Grand Marquis in Old Bridge, NJ. I found my dress at Hearts For You Bridal in Manalapan, NJ. I brought my mom and my Aunt Carol with me on a Wednesday afternoon – we were the only ones in the store. After 2 hours and 18 dresses (I was a tomboy when I was younger so both my mom and aunt made me try on EVERYTHING), I found my dress – Maggie Sottero Everett in pure white. It was such a great experience and I felt amazing in my dress.
My biggest concern was finding a makeup artist. I don’t wear makeup on a daily basis – my wedding was the third time I’ve ever had makeup on my face – so the look my makeup artist (Nicole Taylor) gave me was phenomenal and worked so well. Our theme was yellow, white, and gray and our centerpieces were tall vases filled with lemons. Sal and I got the chance to live in England for 2 years while he worked at his company’s global headquarters, so we incorporated some of that into our day. Instead of table numbers, we did English Tube Stops.. and our seating chart was an English theme as well.
Our bridesmaids wore beautiful yellow gowns in two different styles. It worked out that three of the girls picked one style and three of the girls picked another! They all looked amazing. Sal and I had our first dance to Two is Better Than One by Boys Like Girls ft Taylor Swift, which was released the same year we started dating. For dessert, we had a full Viennese room complete with cotton candy, chocolate fountain, ice cream sandwiches, cookies and milk, cake — our guests were blown away!
Your favorite part: My favorite part (besides getting married!) was having an MMMBop sing-off with my closest friends. I am a huge Hanson fan, and while my entertainment guys may have flinched when I said MMMBop was a must, my MC (Arty) and DJ (Mikey Shan) made it happen. There was also a lot of NSync, Backstreet Boys, One Direction, Justin Bieber, and Selena Gomez. My husband is a saint!
Advice for other brides: Enjoy every moment. Pull your new husband aside and watch for a minute or two – it’s an amazing thing to see everything come together and to watch from the sidelines for a little while.
