Katie Meyer and Pete Moor were college sweethearts who knew that they would someday marry. The proposal came over the holidays in 2010, as the two set out on a walk through Manhattan’s Central Park. As they approached Bethesda Fountain, Pete insisted that Katie slow down. She could see a vitrine filled with roses and a framed love letter. There were also champagne flutes and a bottle of champagne. As Pete got down on one knee, he presented the ring that Katie had always fantasized about: a solitaire in a platinum band.

Friends thought that since they had gotten engaged at such a happy time of year, they should also get married then, and so the wedding was set for December 31, 2011. After visiting several venues, they circled back to the Bernards Inn in Bernardsville. The couple loved its classic look and quiet elegance. In fact, the feel of the inn dictated many of their details.


As Katie was walking down the street in Manhattan one day, she spied a gorgeous arrangement of hydrangeas, off-white-antique roses, leucadendron and dusty miller. She knew right then that these were the flowers she wanted to decorate her wedding. Her own bouquet was made up of white roses, freesia and stephanotis, wrapped in white satin ribbon.

“The Bernards Inn really went out of their way to make our New Year’s wedding as festive as possible,” Katie says, supplying party hats and crowns, noisemakers, beads and bottle sparklers to accompany the champagne toast.

Katie chose an Amsale gown simply embellished with silver “jewels” at the waist, and Pete wore a tuxedo with a white rose boutonniere.

“The food at the Bernards Inn was another reason why we chose it,” Katie says. “It’s incredible.” Courses were served throughout the night with dancing and celebrating in between. “My favorite was the delicious pumpkin ravioli,” Katie recalls. The wedding cake was a four-tier affair: one red velvet, one chocolate, one vanilla and carrot cake—Pete’s favorite—for the top. There was even a candy bar where guests could fill goody bags to take home.

So did anything go wrong? Unbeknownst to Katie, Pete found out the day of the wedding that his tux was too short, and he spent hours trying to get that replaced. He did, though, and the rest of the wedding went off without a hitch.
