Kate and Rae at the Coach House at Ryland Inn

Posted on December 09, 2019 by Ariana Baio

I was at this party, that I didn’t want to be at, watching a Seahawks game on my phone and people kept streaming in and out. I was absent-mindedly acknowledging them until the door opens and this loud girl with a fro screams, “LEMON!” and it’s impossible not to look and that’s when I first saw her. I was in a relationship at the time so I didn’t get hit with all those romantic movie feels. Furthermore, when she hugged me goodbye, she called me by the wrong first name, so I really didn’t think anything of it. But then our friendship exploded around sports, beer, and hot dogs as named above, so when we both found ourselves single some years later, we so naturally fell back into our friendship, and shortly thereafter, our relationship.

Rae planned the most spectacular proposal. I was mostly in the dark, except I could tell that something weird/special was happening. I could tell Rae had done a whole lot of planning, but couldn’t figure out why! I still can’t believe Rae commissioned Sean Lugo to put up a mural in Jersey City just for us. It took me a while to process what was going on. It was almost an out-of-body experience. I couldn’t really speak well enough to say “yes,” but I nodded pretty definitively. The best part was that all of our friends and family were there to celebrate (once I got my act together.)

The use of hops and subtle vintage beer paraphernalia really highlights our love for craft beer. You can also see the silhouette of our dog Cannoli in a few special places. Plus it feels like we’ve woven ourselves as individuals and as a couple into all of the decor and details at this place!

The Ryland Inn is known for their farm-to-table cuisine which is really important to me (Kate) as a professional cook and food stylist. Plus when we walked through their Coach House for the first time and saw the renovated silo bar in the cocktail hour space we knew we had to get married here.

My dress was the only dress I loved when I was looking for dresses. It was the first one I tried on! I love the long sleeves and the large lace details. It’s so different than other dresses out there.

Try to schedule a few small getaways or nights out with just the two of you in the midst of all the planning. And don’t talk about wedding stuff!

We are spending a week in Seattle! We look forward to whale watching, hiking, coffee, beer, oysters, sports games and relaxing!
