Details of the Day: The ‘theme’ of our wedding was black & white – I have always dreamed of having a black and white wedding! It feels so elegant and classy. I also love a traditional tuxedo which is what we chose for my husband and all of our groomsmen. My bridesmaids all wore black dresses and they looked gorgeous. Due to the cut of the dress, we kept accessories to a minimum. The girls wore earrings that I gifted them as a thank you for being a part of our special day. All of our flowers were white. The bridesmaids bouquets were white roses with a black ribbon around the stems and my bouquet was larger than theirs with a white ribbon around the stems and small ‘diamonds’ stuck in the bouquet itself. All flowers at the church and reception were also white. Our cake was four tiers each with a different design and it was decorated with fresh white flowers. I knew I wanted an edible favor so we chose small / bite sized rice crispy treats from Treat House in NYC. My two nephews served as ring bearers and while they wore traditional tuxes, they did not wear traditional tux shoes. They each wore a pair of black converse with white laces. During the reception once we hit the dance floor, I changed out of my Badgley Mischka heals and into a pair of white converse embroidered with my new last name ‘Mrs Ikpe’ on the side. One of my favorite details was the saxophonist and pianist we had playing during cocktail hour. We also had our band sing my sister and brother-in-laws wedding song for them and dedicated that song and dance to them for their anniversary (a day late). The Venue: My sister got married at the Westmount Country Club on February 12, 2011 – almost exactly 6 years prior to my husband and I. When I was at her wedding I knew I HAD to get married there one day. The grounds and cocktail/reception rooms are absolutely gorgeous. And one cannot attend a wedding there without thinking about the cocktail hour! There is any type of food a guest could imagine and everything is absolutely delicious! The staff at the Westmount was unbelievable to me as a guest and member of a bridal party and I knew they would make me feel like a celebrity on my wedding day. The Gown: My gown was a short sleeved lace gown. The front had a plunging illusion neckline and it was a fit and flare dress with a short train. The back of the gown was open and dipped down to just above my waist. We added a string of pulls with some sparkle to the top of the dress that drooped across my bare back. A sparse sprinkling of tiny crystals adorned the bodice of the dress. I always thought I knew what kind of dress that I wanted but I was surprised when I put this one on and I knew it was the one. It was a little more dramatic between the open back and plunging illusion neckline than I would have thought for myself. But I loved that it was unique yet still elegant. When I walked out to show my Mom and my sisters I could tell by their reaction that this was the dress for me! Favorite Moment: My favorite moment was when my father walked me down the aisle to my now husband. It was a moment I always dreamed of and it meant so much to me. My dad and I have a very close relationship and many of the qualities that I love in my Dad, my husband possesses. It was so meaningful & special to have him lead me down the aisle and give me away to the man that I will spend the rest of my life with. Detail You Couldn’t Live Without: I think the only thing that I couldn’t live without was having my Mom, Dad and sisters by my side. We are a very close family and they were with me in every step of the wedding planning process. Their help, guidance, love and support helped to make my dream wedding a reality. First Dance Song: My husband and I danced to ‘Mean to Me’ by Brett Eldredge. Advice for Other Brides: My advice would be the same advice that everyone gave me – take the time to look around and soak everything in. The day goes by so quickly and you want to have memories of as many details as you can! And of course don’t stress and HAVE FUN! Honeymoon: For our honeymoon we went to Moorea & Bora Bora. It was magical! We stayed at the Hilton Moorea and then at the St Regis in Bora Bora. The St Regis Bora Bora was unbelievable. We were treated like royalty and had the most spectacular time. It was the honeymoon of our dreams!
