This Jersey City Wedding Exuded Sultry and Romantic Vibes

Posted on November 08, 2024 by New Jersey Bride

Their Story

Taylor and Kevin wed on January 21, 2023 at Liberty House in Jersey City. They originally met at the end of their sophomore year of college at the University of Delaware. “Kevin loves to say that the moment he saw me at that first party our sophomore year of college he knew I would become his wife,” Taylor says.

The Proposal

“Kevin planned a beautiful proposal for me underneath a bridge in Central Park in Manhattan,” says Taylor. “He enlisted my best friend to lure me to Central Park under the guise of going to brunch at Tavern on the Green. Once we arrived in the park I quickly realized that we weren’t walking in the right direction of the restaurant. I actually stopped my friend and made us go look at a map because I was convinced we were getting lost. She convinced me to walk in her direction and that’s when we arrived under Pinebank Arch and I saw Kevin!”

Right after the proposal, Kevin had the couple’s friends and family meet them at a bar called Sunday’s Well.

Choosing the Venue

Not only does the Liberty House have amazing views of New York City and the Statue of Liberty, but it’s known for its amazing food and service. The location was also perfect for the couple and their families, Taylor’s from Central Jersey and Kevin’s from Westchester.

Details of the Day

“Going into wedding planning I knew that I wanted a winter wedding, but not just your typical Christmas-centric winter wedding,” says Taylor. “I wanted our day to be sultry, romantic, a little dark and a lot of fun.”

Taylor says she started describing her vision as “the Great Gatsby meets Succession, just really emulating that New York feel and vibe.”

The couple achieved that through florals and decors in black, deep reds, purple, touches of greenery and gold accents. Burgundy taper candles in gold vintage candlesticks were incorporated into tablescapes.

The cocktail hour started off with a dramatic walkway that featured flowers crawling organically up the arbors on the wooden trellis entrance that led in, with uplighting to really light up the space. Once in cocktail hour, guest were greeted with our stunning white triple arch seating chart and sounds from the jazz string band that was playing music.

Following cocktail hour, guests were led upstairs into the reception, where they had flowers and candles leading up the steps, and the New York City skyline as a backdrop.

The couple ended the night with an espresso martini tower and late-night McDonald’s and candy to go.

Favorite Moment

“Before I was getting ready to walk down the aisle I was so nervous and anxious and I kept making my dad promise not to let me fall or trip in my new heels. He kept reassuring me that he was going to be holding on very tightly,” says Taylor.

“He kept his promise, because by the time I got down the aisle and it was time to pass me off to Kevin at the alter my dad wouldn’t let go. I had to whisper in his ear, ‘Dad you can let go now,’ and it was just the sweetest moment of the day seeing my dad and my husband in that same moment, my two favorite people on the planet. I cry every time I think about it, but they’re happy tears!”

Advice for Other Couples

“Just breathe! I think it’s important to take wedding planning day by day and just give yourself grace.”

“My other piece of advice would be to follow your gut! A lot of people who are involved with your wedding and the wedding planning process aren’t going to be as close to it as you are, so if you want to do something and you’re getting push back and people aren’t seeing your vision, I say to just go for it anyway! I guarantee that whatever your instinct is will be right in the end.”
