Janine and Chris at The Sunset Ballroom at Jack Baker’s

Posted on November 13, 2017 by Allison Dupree

Janine+ChrisHow did you two meet? I went to high school with Chris’ younger sister, so I’ve known of him for quite some time. We became friends on social media and exchanged numbers. We were friends for about 2 years. Janine+ChrisOne night we ended up at the same bar and that’s when we first kissed. That friendship turned into a relationship and we’ve been together since. Janine+ChrisHow did he ask? Chris proposed on May 21st 2016. He had just ran the Brooklyn half marathon. Unfortunately I could not get off of work that day, so the plans were to go out to dinner to celebrate. When I got home from work he had our entire room filled with candles and rose petals on the bed spelling out “marry me”. Janine+ChrisThe following day he had a surprise brunch planned with family and friends to all celebrate together. It was so thoughtful and beautiful. Janine+ChrisDetails of your day: We wanted a art deco, great Gatsby feel for our big day. The colors were a gold/champagne and black. Janine+ChrisThe bridesmaids carried beautiful feather bouquets rather than flowers to go along with the theme. Janine+ChrisWe had a fun cigar bar and candy bar for our guests. Janine+ChrisWhy did you chose your venue? The main reason we choose our venue was for the view. The venue overlooked the water and when the sun was setting it was just breathtaking. We actually had attended a wedding there years back and I fell in love with it that night. The service and food was incredible. Janine+ChrisWe knew when we got engaged that we wanted to check it out and it was just like what we remembered. Janine+ChrisWhat was on your menu? We choose to do a buffet style so there could be lots of dancing and no interruptions. We had lots of choices from salmon, lobster ravioli, eggplant parm, pork loin and prime rib. Our guests were very happy with all the food selections. Janine+ChrisWhat was your cake flavor?  We had a coconut flavor cake. Janine+ChrisHow did you decide on your gown? I absolutely loved my gown! It was everything I wanted and envisioned myself in. It was all white lace with champagne lining. It was a fitted dress with an open back. Very modest in the front and flashy in the back. Janine+ChrisI decided to go with a cathedral veil because it went perfectly with the dress. I choose the dress because it wasn’t heavy and I could move in it. That was very important to me. Janine+ChrisFavorite moment? That’s so hard to choose one! The day was so magical. I loved seeing all our guests dancing have a great time! Janine+ChrisI think my favorite moment was seeing Chris face as I walked down the aisle. I will forever remember that. Janine+ChrisDid anything go wrong? There was a couple minor things, but for the most part the day went just how we imagined. Janine+ChrisFirst dance song? Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran Janine+ChrisAdvice for other brides? Relax and don’t sweat the small things. At the end of the day no one notices it. Janine+ChrisI kept telling myself “ok Janine not everything is going to go as planned so it is what it Is”. And that helped prepare me!
