Their Story: Genevieve Rosen and Patrick Moloney met down the Shore at Leggett’s Sand Bar in Manasquan during a Saturday afternoon bingo game in the summer of 2012. They became friendly and went on a few casual dates in the fall. But it wasn’t until they got stuck together during Superstorm Sandy, which hit later that autumn, that Genevieve, 28, of Manalapan, and Patrick, 29, of Rutherford, got to know each other better. The storm was scary, she recalls, as they lost power and cell service in Hoboken. “It was comforting having him there,” Genevieve says. “He made it fun. I felt safe.” A few weeks later, when he was out of the country on vacation, she realized how much he meant to her and they began dating exclusively.
Will You Marry Me? In November 2014, as they walked toward the Jersey City restaurant Battello, Patrick asked if Genevieve wanted to take a photo of the skyline, a ruse to let him pop the question. But it was cold and windy and she didn’t want to stop. Despite the snag in his plan, he pressed on. “He got down on one knee and I was completely surprised,” the bride says, adding that friends and family had gathered at the restaurant to celebrate the newly engaged couple.
Details of the Day: The couple tied the knot on June 25, 2016, at the Stone House at Stirling Ridge in Warren. Genevieve loved the look of the grounds and the farm-to-table cuisine. With her bridesmaids in sapphire-blue gowns and vibrant flowers in shades of pink, orange and purple popping against the rustic setting, Genevieve described the gorgeous look of her elegant day as “the mountains meet the ocean.” The theme was the pineapple, which welcomed their 190 guests to their wedding and new family. “I thought that was sweet and a nice symbol,” she says.
Favorite Moment: When their guests kept on dancing until the very end of the evening. “The deejay played a lot of great songs,” she says. “It kept everyone on the dance floor.”
Detail She Couldn’t Live Without: Her gorgeous gown, a gold silk dress with a white, lace overlay. “I liked that the gold made the white stand out and it was a little less traditional,” Genevieve says. “It fit me so nicely, I just loved it.”
What Went Wrong: A case of bronchitis and an upper respiratory infection had the bride on antibiotics on her special day.
Advice: Practice sitting down in your gown and try to stay healthy. “It was not fun being sick on my wedding day at all,” she says.
Honeymoon: After a honeymoon to Napa, California and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, the couple is at home in Nutley.
