Erin and Ben’s Happily Ever After at Skytop Lodge

“My day was a fairytale! I use the word fairytale a few times because Ben proposed to me at Cinderella on Broadway, my all time favorite childhood movie. Even the weather was a fairytale; It was a cool and somewhat cloudy day, but the forecast kept predicting full sunshine at 7pm, which was our ceremony time out in the garden. Sure enough the sun came out and we were married right before the sun was to set around 8:36pm.”

“The guys spent the day golfing on the property’s golf course, while the girls and I got ready with hair and make-up on site. My wedding dress was a romantic, elegant ivory dress with a sweetheart top, beaded/rhinestone sash under the bust, and a few lifts with beading on the skirt. I had a simple elbow length veil so as not to take away from the dress. My shoes, Gianni Bini, were also ivory: platform open toe with crystals down the back of the ankle and heel. My accessories served as ‘Something Borrowed’: My mother’s purse she used for her prom and wedding day which was made by my grandmother. And since Ben is from Kentucky and loves the Louisville cardinals, I sewed a patch onto my garder.”

“My husband surprised me with a bag piper right after we said “I do”. I initially wanted a bag piper, as I’ve always loved them and the Scottish/Irish tradition, but decided to nix it with budget. He ended up coordinating the whole thing! The bag piper began to play after we kissed and as we came back down the aisle. He serenaded my bridal party and I as we congregated toward the back of the garden at the Skytop Lodge. It’s a moment I will never forget. My heart melted and I immediately cried!”

“Take a moment to take it all in. One of my best memories is standing in front of my family and friends, while holding Ben’s hands, and remembering the faces as they watched us promise our love to one another. It’s a moment that you’ll never get back. In that moment, you realize all of your planning and details were worth it. When the planning and coordinating starts to consume and overwhelm you, picture that moment with your soon to be husband, and most important guests surrounding you. It is a truly priceless feeling!”
