Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

Posted on August 06, 2020 by Ariana Baio

I was in my third year of law school when I went to a party that my friend was hosting. Not knowing anyone but the hostess, I was forced to mingle and found myself spending most of the night talking to Rob. We had very similar senses of humor and I thought we were both joking when Rob asked me to go to a Bruce Springsteen concert with him that was nearly two months away. Minutes later, however, I realized that Rob was serious when he showed me the confirmation for the tickets. We’ve been together ever since!Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

In December 2018, Rob and I flew to Spain for vacation. The minute the plane touched down in Barcelona, I came down with the flu. Rob strayed away from my very detailed itinerary and took me to Parque del Laberinto de Horta. Rob’s plan was to navigate the maze and propose to me in front of the goddess of love. This plan failed when I walked 10-feet in and decided I needed to leave because I was too sick to walk all the way through. We left the maze and went to the top of the park to find a place to sit. Rob got lucky, because he was able to set up a tripod to “take a picture” without me asking too many questions. Rob got me up off my bench and got ready to pose for a picture. Rob was able to get the entire proposal on video. We then used a still shot from the video as inspiration for our save-the-dates!Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

We transformed our 150+ person wedding into a 12 person micro-wedding in about three weeks. Since we had to keep the number small, we wanted to make the day into a summer garden party. We chose our date knowing it was the summer solstice and we wanted to take advantage of the sunshine.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

When we originally planned our wedding, we had booked Ninety Acres for our rehearsal dinner. Being able to have our “reception” there made it feel like our day was still in line with our original plan.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

For appetizers we had a salad and burrata. For entrees, we had the option of dry-aged strip loin or scallops cake. For dessert, we had devil’s food cake with chocolate buttercream and raspberry jam.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

I wanted a simple dress for the church, especially since I am going to wear “the dress” next year for our rescheduled date.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

Our photographer got a group picture of everyone who was able to come to our wedding. It was so special to have our families and best friends in one photo commemorating the day.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

My denim jacket! I had a black denim jacket embroidered under the collar with our wedding date.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

Other than Covid-19 completely changing our plans? There was a torrential downpour minutes after we finished taking our photos. Luckily the rain didn’t last too long and we were able to enjoy the rest of the night outside.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

There are no wrong choices right now. Whatever makes you feel best at the end of the day is the right choice for you and your future spouse.Devon and Robert at Ninety Acres

My parents have a beach house in Maine, so we were able to spend a week there and enjoy Wells, Kennebunkport and Portland.
