Their Story

Nick and Taylor tied the knot at Maritime Parc in Jersey City in a New Year’s Eve wedding on December 31, 2022. They first met a decade earlier in high school during a party; Nick says he “fell for her” that night. “I then spent the next two years trying to get her to date me and the rest is history,” he says.

The Proposal

“My main objective was catching Taylor off guard when I proposed. We had been dating for so long and had constantly talked about it so she knew it was eventually coming,” Nick says. “I did my best to keep it a surprise….While I knew I couldn’t entirely surprise her I wanted to at least catch her off guard.”

So, he made sure she was woken up early, at 7 a.m., on a Sunday. “Girls at work introduced me to Etsy where I found a ‘will you marry dad’ sweater for Winnie [their dog], which was the main prop in the proposal,” Nick says.

A trail of roses led downstairs to Nick dressed up, standing there with a jewelry box. “The proposal was cozy and intimate and personal,” says Taylor.

Details of the Day

For their New Year’s Eve wedding, the couple went modern, rustic and chic with lots of black, white and gold. “I have a very clean, classic and chic style, so everything about this wedding checks the boxes,” Taylor says. “I am also definitely known for being a little ‘bougie’ and wanting to have a good time (Nick too!) So I don’t know what screams ‘bougie’ and party more than an NYE wedding on the Hudson!”

Choosing the Venue

The couple wanted a view of the Hudson within their budget “so we could see the fireworks and add to the NYE theme that much more. We love the location and the fact that this venue isn’t your standard venue hall, from the architecture to the food.”

The Bride’s Gown

Taylor chose a beautiful Pronovias gown from Seng Couture with a low back. “I have very simple and clean taste but I am very particular about it,” says Taylor. “So I was looking for something that would remain classic through the years but had a little fun to it. I love that from the front my dress looks very clean and classic, but there’s a wow factor in the back that goes along with the NYE, winter wonderland theme.”

One Detail They Couldn’t Live Without

Each other! They say: “Our relationship stood the test time and all of the highs and lows brought us even closer. We, of course, would not have made it without our amazing family, friends and vendors, and we are just so grateful that everyone stuck along for the ride.”

Unexpected Moments

The couple calls their “the most perfect, imperfect day” because “tons of unexpected things happened,” including the venue losing power and the very heavy fog (which ended up making for some beautiful outdoor photos). But, the couple says, they “rolled with the punches and made the absolute best of it with a ton of help from our incredibly amazing vendors, family and friends. We were just so excited to finally get married that we weren’t letting anything that happened change that.”

In a funny twist, the couple says “these imperfections made the day even better as crazy as that sounds. We think it’s safe to say to we have a very unique wedding story to share for years to come.”

Advice for Other Couples

“If Covid taught us anything, literally anything can happen, so roll with the punches, don’t sweat the little things and only worry about what you can control. Remember why you are doing this; at the end of the day it is about the bride and groom and the commitment you’re about to make to each other.”

They also noted that a long engagement can mean more time for planning and saving. But, they say, “don’t overwhelm yourself with too many options, and once you’ve made a decision don’t look back.”

They also recommend doing research, getting as much in writing as possible from vendors and connecting with other couples for support, advice and guidance.

In terms of spending, keep track of it. Things add up quickly when planning a wedding.

Their last piece of advice? “Have fun!” “After 2020 there are no more rules so do what you want! Traditions change so don’t feel you need to stick to them.”
