Kayla and Dustin tied the knot on May 12, 2023 at the Ryland Inn in Whitehouse Station. The couple originally met during a walk at Hartshorne Woods.
“During Covid, when there was not much to do, I took my dog, Stella, for a walk on the trail,” she says. “Dustin happened to be running that same trail, and being the dog lover that he is, he stopped to pet Stella. We started talking and exchanged numbers and ended up meeting up that same day for coffee.”
On Christmas Eve, Kayla had planned to make cookies but they were out of eggs. “I asked Dustin to run to the food store with me and he said yes (should have been my first clue that something was up,” she says. “With eggs on my lap, he told me he needed to make a quick stop and pulled in to Hartshorne Woods. I kept asking why we were there, we didn’t even have our dogs with us. He said he just needed to do something. I was completely surprised when he got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife, it was such an amazing day in so many ways and I just kept saying yes, yes, yes!”
“It was the only Venue we toured and my jaw hit the ground when I walked in to the grand ballroom, I knew it was where I was going to marry the love of my life.”
The colors were blush, ivory and dusty blue. They had beautiful spring peonies and roses mixed with greenery and some pink-hued pampas grass.
“My theme was chic elegance and I felt it came to life with the florals and gold signage and decor,” says Kayla.
“Seeing my fiancĂ© at our first look and reading our vows to each other in private,” the bride says.
Kayla wore the earrings her mom wore on her wedding day, and a ring that her late grandmother wore as her “everyday” wedding ring.
“Those details were my favorite, I just felt like I had a piece of them and good luck for a happy and long marriage,” she says.
“As a perfectionist myself, there will still be things beyond control, the small things go unnoticed the day of. Just enjoy every second and know that everyone is there to support you.”
The couple spent two weeks in Greece.
