Alicia & Dan at Olde Mill Inn

Posted on April 28, 2023 by Jacqueline Larcara

Alicia and Dan wanted a rustic yet elegant wedding. For their big day, on cool fall night in November, the Olde Mill Inn fit the bill for the couple’s vision with its outdoor ceremony courtyard. Read on to see their fun mid-reception wardrobe change during their Olde Mill Inn wedding.

Their Story

“We actually met through my brother,” says Alicia. “Dan and my brother were close friends and we all hung out on the weekends and before we knew it there was some flirting involved and we really hit it off and now here we are.”

In June 2020, the height of the pandemic, Dan told Alica he wanted to go on a date one Saturday afternoon he said  just wear something nice. “He took me to where we had our first date and where he asked me to be his girlfriend, The Chart House in Weehawken,” says Alicia. “We walked along the water and before I knew it, he was on one knee and asked me to marry him right there in front of the beautiful New York skyline and of course I said yes!”

On November 20, 2021, Alicia and Dan tied the knot at the Olde Mill Inn. “I really stuck with a rose gold theme,” says Alicia. “My centerpieces were mostly white with some greenery and a pop of some pink roses. Our bouquets were pink and white roses, which are my favorite.” For favors, she wanted to incorporate their photo booth. “We decided to get magnetic picture frames as our favors so that our guests can put their photo booth pictures on their refrigerator,” says Alicia. For their first dance song, they chose “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur. “We wanted a more modern song for our first dance and once we heard the words we thought it was a great fit,” says Alicia.

“For a few years I worked right next door to the Olde Mill Inn. Everyday I would drive by the venue and I thought it was just so beautiful. I told myself that one day I would get married there,” says Alicia. “Once we toured the venue in-person we were immediately sold especially after seeing their breathtakingly beautiful courtyard. The Olde Mill Inn had the perfect vibe for us: rustic yet elegant. Having the hotel right on site was also something we were looking for so it was a total no brainer for us to book with them!”

For cocktail hour, passed appetizers included shrimp cocktail and lamb chops. Since it was also a cool fall night, they also added some tomato soup shooters and grilled cheese. Stations included a cheeseburger slider station and a shrimp po boy station. For main entrees guests had the option between braised chicken, filet of steak, salmon, or pad Thai noodles for vegetarian friends. The three-layer cake consisted of the bottom layer that was chocolate cake with cannoli filling, the middle layer that was white cake with caramel filling, and (Alicia’s favorite!) the top layer that was white cake and raspberry filling. “Everything was so delicious and people are still raving about the food and dessert,” she says.

Bride’s Gown

“My Sottero-Midgley gown was a stunning lace fit and flare gown featuring allover beaded lace for a subtle shimmer,” says Alicia. “The plunging illusion V neckline is mirrored in the back and accentuated by beaded lace spaghetti straps. An ethereal lace train completed the look. I knew this dress was the one as soon as I put it on, it was like it was made for me. It hugged me in all the right places.”

Favorite Moment

“My favorite moment was at our reception, we had a packed dance floor all night! About halfway through, one of our guests brought wigs and sparkle jackets for us to put on and it really got the party started, people are still talking about how much fun our wedding was to this day,” says Alicia.

Favorite Detail

“A detail I couldn’t live without was our marquee letters that we had in front of our sweetheart table,” says Alicia. “They were a show stopper and the best part was that they were made by my father-in-law! He did a fantastic job and I felt like it really tied everything together,” says Alicia.

Advice

“My advice for other brides is to soak it all in! Take a moment with your significant other and just look around the room, all those people are there for you! Sometimes the day goes by so fast you don’t realize how much love is in the room,” says Alicia.

Honeymoon

The couple went to Sandals St. Lucia La Toc for six nights for their honeymoon. They had a private plunge pool and a butler. “We were seriously treated like royalty which is exactly what we needed after a year and a half of wedding planning,” says Alicia. “The place was absolutely gorgeous and very relaxing.”
