Alex and Joe wanted their Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury wedding to be glamorous. Romantic flowers were chosen to cut the masculine black, gold and white tones of the venue and they incorporated butterflies in their signage and the bride’s veil as a tribute to those who couldn’t be there with them.
Joseph and Alex have known each other since they were about seventeen years old. They were never in the same friend group, but always wound up in the same place at the same time, it was like a magnet had drawn them together over the years. Alex spent most summer nights out with Joe and his friends, who wound up being their bridal party. Joe was there for Alex’s 21st birthday celebration even though they were not close friends. “When the timing was right, we knew this was it for us,” says Alex.
Alex had gone to Cape May every year as a child. It was a place that was magical to her. A couple years ago her family purchased a house on the bay. Joe proposed on the bay, in a candle heart dug out in the sand with the words “Marry Me” in light up letters around it. There was even a picnic table set for a private dinner for the two of them on the beach with Alex’s favorite meal. When they got back to Alex’s parents house, they were greeted by both of their families for a party. Joe said he chose to propose here so that when they go back to this bay with their children, he can tell them, “this is where I proposed to your mom.”
Joe and Alex wanted their September 30, 2022 wedding to feel like they were getting married in their mansion in old school New York. Romantic flowers were chosen to cut the masculine black, gold and white tones of the venue and they added a “grew here” feel as if they were in their own garden. Touches of butterflies also lined the brides veil and signage as a tribute to those who couldn’t be there with them that day. Their first dance song was “I Guess I’m In Love” by Clinton Kane.
“The second we walked into Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury, we knew it was the perfect fit,” says Alex. “The staff was above all other venues we saw, and it brought the perfect mix of glamour and romance that both Joe and I were looking for.”
“The food was top notch at Shadowbrook at Shrewsbury,” says Alex. “We served a choice of filet minion, pork chop or sea bass. Our cake was french raspberry and raspberry truffle as Alex prefers vanilla and Joe, chocolate.
“My Martina Liana gown was the combination of romantic, sexy and classic bride,” says Alex. “The only thing I knew walking into the wedding dress store was that I wanted to glisten as I walked down the aisle. This gown was the one because there was simply no dress that compared. The light flowery detail with beads from top to bottom and long train offered the perfection combination of drama and elegance. It was me in a dress.”
“My favorite moment was my first look and first dance with Joe,” says Alex. “The look on his face and the way we got to embrace each other will forever live rent free in my head.”
“Be selfish during your entire wedding planning process,” says Alex. “Choose your cheerleaders. Surround yourself only with people who want to see you happy, who will support you and who want to see you succeed.”
The couple went to St Barths.
