Their story: Jamie Share, 29, and Ronny Sanchez, 30, first met at a mutual friend’s birthday party. They were then engaged a year later. Jamie grew up in rural Upstate New York and had long dreamed of a rustic wedding that reflected her love of the outdoors. Ronny was born and raised in Union City, but was on board with Jamie’s vision for a country-style barn wedding.
Their location: After visiting barns throughout New Jersey and New York, the couple crossed the border into Pennsylvania and decided to hold their wedding at the Rodale Institute in Kutztown. The ceremony took place outdoors, then 150 guests took a wagon ride to the reception in Rodale’s classic Pennsylvania Dutch barn.
Details of the day: Bridesmaids reflected the country vibe with cowboy boots under their pale-pink dressses. Jamie alternated between cowboy boots and high heels. Family members chipped in, from the cross that Jamie’s father made by hand to the pitchers of sangria made by Ronny’s dad. Jamie’s mom made signs to guide guests through the venue, and Ronny and Jamie made the table centerpieces.
Favorite detail: Ronny intended to surprise Jamie by hiring singer Marc Von Em to perform at the ceremony and cocktail hour. A few days before the wedding, the jittery groom divulged his secret, to Jamie’s delight. A deejay then played songs that were special to all generations, like the Beach Boys’ “You’re So Good To Me,” which Jamie had often listened to as a little girl hanging out with her dad.
Behind the scenes: Since they chose an unusual venue without the props, lighting and architectural features of more traditional sites, Jamie and Ronny had to undertake many of the details. They rented tables and chairs, and purchased several truckloads of liquor and beer. They used barrels and plywood to create a candy bar for guests, and rounded up their own fans, tiki torches and other décor. “We owe huge thanks to our families for helping us transport and put together all of this stuff,” Jamie says.
Honeymoon: Tahiti, Bora Bora and Moorea.
