‘The Parent Trap’ Vibes Inspired Their Lake Mohawk Country Club Wedding

Lake Mohawk Country Club

Christine and Robert got married on October 11, 2025, at Lake Mohawk Country Club.

Their Story

“We met the traditional way in 2021, on Hinge! When we matched his opening line was that he was in need of an interior designer in his life since he just bought a house,” says Christine.

“Our first date was at the now-closed restaurant called Gus’s Last Word. We talked for hours straight and I finally met my match by finding someone who could talk almost as much as me,” she says. “We both walked away from the date knowing that it was the last first date we were both ever going to have.”

“We dated for three years before we got engaged and have now been together for five years.”

The Proposal

“My husbands family has had a condo in New Smyrna Beach, Florida for over 30 years. Its was the first trip we took alone together as a couple,” says Christine. “It holds a special place in our hearts and we had a tradition of walking down to the docks to watch the sunset and look at the dolphins before dinner.”

“On our trip there in April 2024 he told me that we were going out to a nice dinner and to dress a little fancier than usual. We went down to look at the sunset on the dock like usual and when we got to the end of the pier he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.”

“He has hid champagne in a cooler earlier in the day, had a photographer hiding, and even worked with the dock master to get permission. It was a day we will never forget.”

Choosing the Venue

“We chose Lake Mohawk Country Club because from the second we entered the building they were so welcoming,” says Christine. “We had toured a few other venues where we had just felt like a number to them.”

“The Lake Mohawk Country Club gave you their full attention and made you feel like you were top priority. It also encompassed everything we wanted in a venue: good food, a beautiful lake, and uniqueness.”

“Blake and her team helped us customize the night to achieve the dream wedding we wanted. We were honored to have our wedding there.”

Details of the Day

“We were able to take the atmosphere provided by the lake and use it to our advantage for the theme,” says Christine. “We drew a little inspiration from the movie ‘The Parent Trap’ also.”

“For the cocktail hour we had stations inspired by different countries we have visited together. There were napkins with our dog’s face on them to accompany each guests drink.”

“The main ballroom had so much character with the wood beams that we kept the flowers simple with white pedals and greenery. The string lights and candles added a warm tone to the space also. We had a live painter in the corner that our guests could walk over and watch. A photo booth was also created with a custom ‘The Petersons’ sign as a back drop. The venue had an empty ledge for us to showcase and we placed wedding photos of our parents and grandparents.”

“We created custom match boxes as the favor and since it was a fall wedding we had a table with apple cider donuts from a local farm for guests to grab on the way out.”

Favorite Moment

“Our favorite moment as a couple was the first look in the sunken garden on the edge of the lake. With all the planning and stress that went into a wedding that moment felt like the next step in our life together. We were able to see each other and just enjoy the moment and what was to come.”

Wedding Day Attire

“My spouse, the groomsmen, my father in law, and my uncle wore tuxes. My husband had an emerald green satin bow tie while the groomsmen had a paisley patterned emerald bow tie,” says Christine.

“My bridesmaids wore emerald satin dresses to match the bow ties but were able to choose different style dresses according to their personal style. I also had a bridesman in my bridal party that I had match the groomsmen.”

Advice For Other Couples

“My advice would be to not feel pressured by other brides or what you see on TV. The wedding planning process doesn’t need to be stressful and just because you might be planning at a different pace or making unique decisions, it doesn’t mean it is wrong. Each wedding and planning process should be unique, just like your love story.”

Honeymoon

“For our honeymoon we went to New Zealand for 12 days and Hawaii for two days on the way home. We always watch the ‘Amazing Race’ on TV and one of the episodes inspired us to choose New Zealand.”

“It was an adventure for all 12 days. We went white water rafting, wine tasting, glacier touring, bungee jumping, and off roading. The two days in Honolulu on the way home were used as pure relaxation.”
