Occasionally we spoke about getting married and what our future plans would be. We looked at different rings together and I emphasized how much I wanted an emerald on it because I loved them and green is my absolute favorite color. We were going on a cruise at the end of April for a friends wedding, and I had the thought that he would propose while we were on the cruise.
Once at the park, we climbed to the monument that symbolized the highest point in New Jersey. There were awesome views that you could see all over, including the state of New York. After spending some time at the monument we went on one of the trails – a fairly moderate trail that went around the mountain for approximately 5 and a half miles. It took us about 2 hours to hike around. Once we were done, I was sweaty, tired, and ready to get in the car for our two hour ride back home. Jay insisted on hiking back up to the monument. I didn’t understand why. He claimed we needed to take more pictures there. Initially I protested, but then realized what may be happening.
We climbed back to the top of the monument and took some more pictures. Once we sat down, Jay pulled the ring out of his backpack and proposed. I was so happy and excited that I immediately said yes! One of the most awesome things is that the gorgeous diamond ring has two emeralds on the sides of it- it was a custom job. Jay had all the things that I liked about different rings combined into one that I absolutely LOVE and adore. Our two hour car ride home was spent calling close friends and family to tell them the good news! It was such an amazing day for both us.
We took our engagement photos in Asbury because we often go there to walk to boardwalk, see a concert, or go out to dinner. Since our wedding is in the fall of next year, we decided to get some summer pictures of the two of us at the beach! Definitely looking forward to the wedding and how awesome all of it will be.”
