Stretch SUV limos—the Escalade, Navigator, and Hummer—hold up to 20 people, usually enough room for an entire bridal party. And these vehicles are decked out with bars, flat-screen TVs, DVD players, and sound systems. Some even have lights that pulse to the music.
Brides who take the SUV route get the celebrity treatment, with drivers rolling out the red carpet. “It’s all about the bride—to make her feel special,” said Rich Costeira, owner of Santos VIP Limo in Avenel (santosviplimo.com; 732-596-1100), whose drivers unfurl the carpet each time the bride gets in and out of the vehicle. Want something flashier? Try a Ferrari stretch limo.
Party buses, which can hold up to 55 people, have music systems, and some have 60-inch flat screen TVs. They often have limo-style interiors, with leather wraparound seats. “It allows the couple to interact with their guests, and the guests in turn feel like rock stars,” said Isis Petrie of POSH Events in Cherry Hill (877-880-9188; posheventsllc.com).
Trolleys are another way to carry a crowd and can hold 26 people.
Classic cars are a constant. Costeira’s company offers a vintage Rolls-Royce and Bentley, which make for great photos and give a couple time alone.
Exotic sports cars also make a big impression. “You pull up in a vintage red Ferrari, and people are going to remember that,” says Amy DeVito, a wedding designer with Oh So Fabulous in Maywood (201-981-7280; ohsofab.com).
Some couples want to make a splash when they arrive at the reception. “A few brides like to do a grand entrance by flying in on a white helicopter, while other brides want to come in a hot-air balloon, and some even take mini glider planes and glide right into their reception if there’s an airport close by,” says Samantha Goldberg of Gold Events in Chester (908-450-9766; goldeventsplanning.com).
At the end of the night, couples can make a cool getaway on a white Vespa or motorcycle.
But if a vintage car or glitzy SUV isn’t your style, there’s a pumpkin-shaped carriage for a fairy-tale ride. “Being drawn by two white horses…it makes them feel like Cinderella for the day,” said Frances Romano, owner of Golden Carriage in Andover (973-770-1433; goldencarriage.com)
