If you’re a fan of Bravo’s The Real Housewives of New Jersey, then you know the Manzo family. And the Manzo family knows weddings! After all, Albert Manzo runs the highly successful catering and event facility, the Brownstone in Paterson (973-595-8582; thebrownstone.com), and has always leaned on his wife for help and advice. “In the early years, we lived above the Brownstone, and I worked there full-time,” says Real Housewife Caroline. Even their daughter, Lauren, has grown up around the industry. “When I was a little girl I’d sit at the coat check just so I could catch a glimpse of the bride coming in,” says Lauren. “When I got older, my dad asked me to be the bridal assistant.” Here the mother/daughter duo share a few of their best insider tips for New Jersey brides:

Opt for Clear Drinks. “Don’t go for the red wine or a Bloody Mary,” warns Lauren. “Stick with white wine or champagne—or if you want liquor, choose a clear mixer. Colored drinks are how you get a lot of stains.”

Remain Calm. “I see too many brides try to micro-manage their weddings and they lose out on all the fun,” says Caroline. “It’s just one day. Don’t spend it worrying about everything. Let the experts do their job.”

Pack an Emergency Kit. As a bridal assistant, Lauren has an entire kit that can solve any bride’s crisis. But assuming you don’t have someone like Lauren at your side, pack your own. Lauren carries items like extra earring backs, stockings, nail and eyelash glue, a stain stick, and lots of safety pins.— Lindsey Aspinall Getz
