Christine Marini Weds Robert Heyrich, Jr.

With jugs of lemonade and hula hoops, Christine Marini, a substitute teacher from South Hackensack, created her perfect summer wedding. Christine’s dream of tying the knot under a shady tree near a lake came true on July 17, 2010, when she married Robert Heyrich, Jr., a plumber from Montclair, in an outdoor ceremony at the Indian Trail Club in Franklin Lakes.

“I walked barefoot down the aisle at our ceremony and got to feel the grass between my toes,” says Christine. “There was a breeze coming off the lake. It was just so peaceful and beautiful.”

Summer is her favorite season, and Christine wanted to be around nature for her wedding. “We’re very outdoorsy,” she says. “I love being outside at all times.” Christine wore a strapless, ivory trumpet gown for her ceremony, with her long hair down and flowing, and carried a loose bouquet of ‘Sarah Bernhardt’ peonies. “I wanted it to look like I just picked them from the garden myself,” she says.

After the ceremony, Christine and Robby took pictures as their 181 guests enjoyed lawn games and lemonade before the outdoor cocktail hour. She even hula-hooped during pictures. “I wanted my wedding to be very laid-back,” Christine says. “We’re very relaxed people. We enjoy having a good time and being around nature.”

Christine, who studied fashion marketing, spent nineteen months choosing every element for her big day. “I went with very summery elements in certain areas,” she says, “but then I mixed in elegance and sweetness in others.” At the reception, Christine slipped on some shoes so she and Robby could boogie along with their guests to all kinds of music, including swing, country, pop, rock, and hip-hop.

As evening arrived, everyone enjoyed the night air. With lanterns glowing from trees and framing the lake, guests went outdoors to sample dessert from a Viennese table and then joined Robby for cigars. “We wanted it to feel like a summer night with good family and friends,” Christine says. “It was just magical.” She was overjoyed with the results. “It was exactly how I envisioned it,” she says. “It was like a fairy tale.” After a honeymoon in St. Lucia, the couple now lives in South Hackensack.
