On the spot, he dropped to one knee and presented Lauren with a classic three-stone engagement ring with a unique and special setting that he designed himself. It might have been that “eye for detail” that drew this couple together, as Lauren’s impeccable design sense played a major role in every detail of their September 20, 2009, wedding. Lauren had been collecting pictures and ideas for her wedding since high school. Luckily, Rob not only agreed with his future wife’s ideas, but was an active participant in the planning.
Lauren had always wanted a fall wedding. The colors, the feeling of renewal and fresh beginnings, and the crisp autumn air had always made it her favorite time of year. With her parents’ New Vernon estate chosen as the location, nature provided the perfect backdrop of spectacular fall foliage. Acorns adorned the place cards, autumn leaves were perfectly strewn throughout her white rose-and-hydrangea bouquet, the bridesmaids wore chocolate-brown Amsale dresses, and tuxedos were adorned with burnt-orange rose boutonnieres.
The ceremony took place at the family church, Church of Christ the King, a stone’s throw from the Worthingtons’ home, and was officiated by both a Catholic and Episcopalian priest. Lauren and Rob made a dashing getaway in a vintage Triumph convertible, and luckily made it to the reception mere moments before an uninvited Nor’easter joined the festivities. The “just in case” tent was at the ready, and no one even seemed to notice the change of plans. The elaborate fall menu featured pesto torta and lamb chops with grilled figs in a port demi-glace.
Something blue was provided by Lauren’s grandmother in the form of a dazzling aquamarine and peridot ring, and they danced to Neil Diamond’s “Forever in Blue Jeans.” Gorgeous centerpieces of dahlias, hydrangea, leaves, and fresh autumn apples graced the tables, and even the four-tiered red-velvet cake epitomized the blazing autumn evening, perfectly adorned with miniature apples, pumpkins, and berries.
