The Garden State is home to some wonderful history. Possibly one of the most beautiful buildings around is nestled in the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University.

Kirkpatrick Chapel, with its Gothic architecture and several stained-glass windows from the studios of Louis Comfort Tiffany, can provide the perfect backdrop for your wedding ceremony.

The original building, dedicated in December 1873, was designed by architect Henry Janeway Hardenbergh, the great-great grandson of Jacob Rutsen Hardenbergh, the first president of Rutgers College. Hardenbergh went on to make a name for himself by designing many well-known buildings, including the Dakota Building on Central Park and the New York Plaza Hotel. The wonderful stone chapel at Rutgers has all the grandeur of his later buildings, but much closer to home. A major renovation took place in 1916, and included the addition of a large new stained glass window and an organ specifically designed for the space.

Both the chapel, which seats 650, and the organ can be rented for events of all faiths, whether you are an alum of Rutgers or not. For more information, visit the chapel’s website at kirkpatrickchapel.rutgers.edu/.
