Romantic Homecoming

Jennifer Cody/Egomedia Photography

For Kim Connors of Staten Island and Eric Kukal of Linden, their wedding day was a promise of the future and a celebration of their first twelve years together. The former Seton Hall sorority girl and fraternity guy always joked that if they married, it would happen in the university’s 150-year-old chapel, literally steps from their first meeting place. So, on May 2, 2009, 175 guests witnessed the happy couple exchange rings on campus.

In a sentimental gesture, Eric melded his grandmother’s wedding diamond with his great-grandmother’s wedding band to create a gorgeous engagement ring for Kim. “Eric blended the two rings to officially welcome me into his family,” says the bride, who wore a Pnina Tornai gown embellished with Swarovski crystals.

One of the funniest moments of the ceremony happened when the organist mistakenly played “Here Comes the Bride” much too soon. “What was supposed to have been my walking-down-the-aisle song began playing for my grandmother’s entrance, throughout the bridesmaids’ processional, and then began again for me,” says Kim. “As one friend told me, ‘Just have fun and enjoy your day no matter what happens.’ So that’s what I did.”

The reception at the Newark Club also rang sentimental because Kim’s mother lovingly sewed the pristine white pin-tuck tablecloths and napkins. Wedding planner Tina LaMorte of Oh So Fabulous in Maywood beautifully accented the tables in blue and silver accessories that matched the hue of the maids’ dresses. Groom Eric, an entrepreneur and deejay, demonstrated his professional emcee voice by announcing the entire bridal party (including Kim and himself) as they entered the reception.

Kim, who works for ABC News, is the assistant to Emmy-award-winning Diane Sawyer at Good Morning America and World News Tonight. Kim began working for Diane eleven years ago, and she continues to edit news scripts, book Diane’s travel, and organize the news diva’s personal life. “It was wonderful of Diane to attend our wedding,” says Kim. “She’s a great boss and a wonderful friend.”

The couple honeymooned in Italy, and then returned to their home on Staten Island.
