Do you like this story?

It's the park where you chased your first butterfly and he proposed to you on a cloudless day when the spring flowers were in full bloom. Naturally you want to instruct your wedding party to meet at an appointed hour to capture your magical wedding moment.

But before you galvanize the troops to rendezvous at the rose bush, take note of the following tips wedding planner Christine Gabriel of A Special Occasion Planner in Matawan (732-566-8950; occasionsplanner.com) shared, noting that it may not be a walk in the park when planning wedding activities in your local park:

• Check with park officials about rules and regulations for using public grounds.
• Ask to see your photographer's work that is shot outdoors.
• Have a Plan B in the event of inclement weather.
• Bring an emergency kit with everything from your lipstick shade to swabs and extra cover up.
• Be prepared for spectators and their curiosity.
• Don't be surprised by visits from Mother Nature or her bevy of friends including birds, bees, and animals (and possibly their droppings).

While there are some inherent risks involved in planning photos or events in a public park, there is also the possibility of capturing a sensational sunset, butterfly in motion, or priceless candid. Gabriel recalls a couple that had their first date at Riverside Park where the groom proposed, so it was the perfect backdrop for their wedding photos. Just add Mother Nature to the guest list, and smile!
