Brooke and Steven met nearly a decade ago when she was a college student and he was an established celebrity photographer. “I needed an internship for school, and I always loved his work, so I begged him for a job!” recalls Brooke. And it wasn’t long before Brooke started noticing more than just Steven’s portfolio. A year and a half later, after shooting an event together, she leaned over and kissed him. The rest, as they say, is history. Fast forward to Valentine’s Day 2008 when Steven took Brooke on a romantic dinner cruise. After dessert, the couple went out to the ship’s deck, and Steven handed Brooke a box. But instead of an engagement ring, there was a piece of paper with “Will you marry me?” written in several different languages. “He finally got down on one knee and proposed—in English!” laughs Brooke.

As wedding photographers—the two run Tackeff Photography in Fort Lee—Brooke and Steven decided to create a wedding that they themselves would want to shoot. That meant bright colors that would pop in photos, so Brooke opted for a pink-and-orange theme. “Everyone, including Steven, thought I was crazy,” she says. “But I knew it would work, and they are such happy, festive colors.” From the pink fabric draped around the huppah to the pink and orange yarmulkes that her grandmother hand-crocheted, every detail reflected Brooke’s colorful vision. While they had originally planned an outdoor ceremony, rain forced a change of plans. “The staff at Spitz & Peck did an amazing job moving everything indoors,” raves Brooke. “You would never have known that they put the room together at the last minute because it looked so beautiful.”

While the bride walked down the aisle in a traditional white gown, she accented her look with bright pink Kate Spade heels and a pink headband. Paper lanterns hung from the ceiling, and colorful pinwheels lined the pink aisle runner. After being pronounced “photographer and photographer” by their rabbi, Brooke and Steven made their way down the aisle to the Beatles’ “All You Need is Love.” While the couple’s 225 guests enjoyed a cocktail hour featuring a sushi bar, passed hors d’oeuvres, and a martini bar, Brooke and Steven snapped some outdoor photos, with the bride donning orange rain boots. Later, they had their first dance to Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love.” The band kept everyone moving, and when guests weren’t on the dance floor, they were having their pictures taken in a photo booth Brooke rented for the event.
