Here are a few ways to ensure perfectly-groomed groomsmen:
Entice them. Having difficulty getting them to the tuxedo shop to be measured? Offer them an incentive, such as dinner and drinks or tickets to a local sporting event afterward (this can also serve as your groomsmen gift if needed). Remember, guys respond to the reward system!
Go into detail. You might be able to trust that your bridesmaids know to match their shoes with their dress, but you can’t always rely on guys to know their fashions dos and don’ts. So don’t hesitate to give them specific direction on everything from what color socks they should wear to whether or not you expect them to be clean shaven for the big day.
Give them the gift of good grooming. Offer a little nudge in the right direction with gift certificates to a spa or even the local barber shop that can be used the day of the wedding. You may even want to book their appointments for them, and let them know there’ll be breakfast waiting for them at the site (again, use the reward system). There’ll be no excuse for stubble or split ends!
Be realistic. You can’t expect your wedding party to meet all of your demands, so pick your battles wisely. One bride that hated the best man’s long ponytail just had to let it go after he made it clear he wouldn’t be snipping it off anytime soon. In fact, she made light of it by suggesting that he place rubber bands that matched the bridesmaids’ dresses in his hair for the big day.
Put it in writing. Ever notice that when we speak, guys don’t seem to listen? It’s a smart move to put all of your requests in writing before the big day. Worried about being dubbed a Bridezilla? Have some fun by expressing your “orders” in a cute poem or story that can be emailed to the groomsmen before the date.
Get their ladies involved. If you’re still not convinced some of your guys will show up presentable, there’s only one thing left to do: talk to their wives/girlfriends and ask them to make sure all of your requests are met. No man wants to upset his lady—especially before a big event!
