Waterside Restaurant and Catering: The views of New York City from Waterside in North Bergen (201-861-7767; watersiderestaurantandcatering.com), pictured above, just got even better. After siblings Dina Holevas, Gus Shizas and Frances Vagias bought the facility in 2009, they renovated the two banquet rooms the following year and updated the first-floor restaurant in 2011.
“It’s very clean. It’s elegant and posh,” said banquet sales executive Lesley Lovett. “We focus on the view of the city. That’s the main attraction. The renovations enhance the view.”
A granite floor replaced outdated carpeting in the second-floor banquet room while the vistas got larger with the addition of floor-to-ceiling windows, Lovett says. There’s LED lighting in the room, which accommodates 175 guests, and the walls got a fresh coat of ivory and gold paint.
The third-floor banquet room, which holds 224 people, has a new granite floor with a black medallion and black and gold carpeting, Lovett says. There’s LED lighting and two mounted televisions that couples can use to show pictures or videos. The windows were enlarged, and the walls have a new ivory linen covering.
The first-floor restaurant, perfect for bridal showers or rehearsal dinners, has a larger bar and a new deejay booth. The bar was moved away from the windows to create more space for dining with a view.
The Park Savoy: Couples get ready. The Park Savoy in Florham Park (973-377-7100; theparksavoy.com) is getting quite a makeover. The new owners are undertaking a $5 million renovation of the nineteenth-century mansion in time for the 2012 wedding season. “It’s being updated and renewed, but still keeping in step with the period of the mansion,” says Vito Cucci, an owner. “The whole mansion is being re-done.”
The renovations, due to be completed in mid-April, include a bigger ballroom that can hold 400 people and an additional 1,000 square feet of space in the cocktail area. Five dazzling Swarovski crystal chandeliers will shine above the new ballroom, with the center fixture measuring 8 feet wide and 9 feet tall, Cucci says. The chandeliers will hang from a ceiling that’s being raised to 22 feet and will feature decorative moldings and murals.
The plans call for a new state-of-the-art sound system, drop-down video screens and LED lighting to help set the mood, Cucci says.
The cocktail area is also being updated, and a nearby room is being reimagined as a turn-of-the century library, which Cucci says will be used for a martini bar.
A century-old Persian rug will be installed in the bridal suite, and the outdoor garden area will be home to a 1920s wrought-iron gazebo, the perfect spot for photos.
When the update is completed, brides “are going to find a brand-new Park Savoy,” Cucci says.
